Yep, animals can smell predators from a mile away. We have a resident mountain lion at the ranch we visit every now and then, they are a sight, very difficult to track and actually catch a glimpse. That is if the mountain lion allows himself to be seen, they know where you are all the time and are very elusive, unless off course when they decide to eat you!

i am so jealous....we don't have anything cool like mountain lions around here. i have seen a bobcat or two, but they just look like big house cats kinda sorta.

Pic for Kelli, found an exotic bed n breakfast deep in the Copper Canyon Mexico. Reminded me of the movie From Dusk Till Dawn, we were the only ones there and there were about 15 Bengal tigers in huge enclosures.

Hi Kayte. Is it legal to shoot mountain lions in NM?
I don't know Jerry. We've had to call Fish and Game before. They had captured the mama and one of her babies, but left this little guy behind and it was way to young to make it on it's own. They set up the trap in our yard. It was fairly humorous for awhile. They kept catching the neighbors dog. Maddie, the adorable rat terrier. Then they caught the wrong bear.. which was really sad since they get 'three chances' and then are destroyed. This one was a preteen and I was pretty fond of him. They never did catch the baby as far as I know.
Okay, sorry... apparently I'm rambly tonight. I don't think Mrs.Gigantic Kitty will be a problem (except for scaring the snot out of Watson), but we can always call game and fish. :D
Hi Kelli, Jerry & Kayte!

Poor Watson, is he forgiven for destroying the room?

Elf's the one dying for Chocolate!!
Yeah.. he's forgiven. Doug cleaned it up before I got up so forgiving was easy peasy.

Well duh! I knew that. So elf... chocolate? Trip to NM? Might get to see a mountain lion.
Well good!! Maybe this time will be good the whole visit!:)

Good evening everyone!!!

You know, I think that Chim's Mother's surgery is NEXT weekend. That is the actual weekend of the vape meet, and I think I was confused on the weekends....I am sooooooooooo sorry. (see this is why I don't gossip):(

It's very quiet here tonight.:?:

OH MY GOODNESS KAYTE!!! No wonder Watson is/was so very out of sorts!! I'm scared for all of you!!! Please be careful!!!
Well then I would guess her mom didn't have a rough day after all. :D

I will be very careful! Doug on the other hand will still insist that no mountain lion is going to bother him and he'll go his regular morning walk... with watson... bait on a leash.
It wouldn't worry me much but the animals are all in dire need this year. There's no water or food higher up the mountain and they've all moved down around the houses. I guess bear and deer are even going into neighborhoods in the city on the other side of the mountain! I would assume the big cats are, too. We had a bobcat in the yard a few weeks ago. I feel so bad for them. The forest service is telling people to put water out for them at the far end of your land so they'll stay 'out there' and not get so close to the houses. And that makes no sense at all.

Yeah. They're sneaky alright! It's kind of weird living in a place that you just know you look like a big chicken dinner to something.
A couple of years ago a family was hiking on a trail up the mountain. Five year old boy was running just a little bit ahead. Boom! Mountain lion grabbed him and was dragging him off. Amazingly, the dad was able to catch up and beat the cat until it let go and ran off. That was one grateful family that will never look at going to the mountains for a picnic quite the same again.

Don't you just love their ears?!
I'm not too crazy about them though. One grabbed my most wonderful kitty right off my porch. I still miss that cat. :(
Drat! All I ever get to see are deer, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, FLOCKS of turkeys, and one teeny tiny chipmunk.
Well of course there is the snakes & trantulas!
Shudder at the snakes and tarantulas. We have those here too, but seldom see them. Except garter snakes. We have turkeys, too but I've never gotten to see them! Just can hear them.

I was just reading an article about the lone spotted jaguar that's living in Arizona. Too cool!

I think I'm happy to live where there is little chance of the above story ever happening.

Yeah. It's very hard not to feed them. But, that puts them in danger once they attach food to humans and get tagged as nuisance. :(
That's true if it's the larger animals that can be dangerous.

Morning Dale!!! And EVERYONE!!! I'm headed for more coffee and scrambled eggs.
