Big tobacco are not stupid they know the future in the developed world is in devices like ecigarettes and many of the larger company's already have departments working on future products and they are not all cigalikes ;). They will continue to sell stinkies in the developing world creating another market base there to continue the revenue stream they are used too but have no doubt BT is on our side in this but unlike us they realise politics and government departments don't change quickly and never without a little help. Vapings biggest enemy is big pharma they stand to lose billions if ecigs are favoured as a smoking cessation or even harm reduction product over their massively overpriced NRT products and they will be lobbying long and hard to keep ecigs down. In the UK thankfully despite what some think big pharma is not having too great an impact thanks to decades of anti smoking and most UK politicians want a lot more information and study before making a final decision. It's a shame that politicians in the US are not as fond of freedom as they are of talking about it and allowed the people to make the informed choice.

its important to note that England didn't have the master tobacco settlement
bringing in scads of extra money to lose. most states not only tax tobacco
by the pack they have the additional settlement money to boot.
that's 2 very nice revenue streams to protect.
with it becoming more clearer the relative safety of e-cigarettes
are compared to smoking and ever increasing usage of the new
technology is the reason we are seeing this near hysterical drive
in many states to get regulation and excessive taxation rammed
through while most of the cats are still in the bag.

This study like many such studies (health nz, for example) suffers from a fundamental flaw .Nothing related to toxins perse but, The method of collection (before analysis) is wrong.

From study linked from the original reference

Cigarette preparation and machine smoking for conventional cigarettes are described in Health Canada Test Method T-115 (CAN) (1999). Two to three cigarettes were smoked per replicate for conventional cigarettes and 99 puffs were taken from single e-cigarettes for no more than approximately 200 mg of particulates collected per pad...

/////

There are no appreciable particulate matter in ecig vapor compared to Cigarette smoke which has everything (That is relevant like nicotine) as particulates.

For meaningful analysis they have to condense everything or develop methods to analyze vapor instantly.Meanwhile these studies continue to serve their purpose, though.
