Everyone here seems to say to freeze it. I read an article by one of the writers at snuscentral and he said as long as it is kept cool and at a fairly constant temperature that it is ok. He said that what really hurts it is of course warm/ hot temps and big temperature variations.

Probably a good practice, I've regularly had 3 cans open but in the fridge and I've started noting some drying out.

This may sound stupid but does a can out of the freezer need time to thaw? I assume if it does, it probably doesnt need much time at all.
i usually have 4 or 5 cans of different stuff open in the freezer and just pop em in frozen.I never mess with moving them to the fridge as they only take a couple of seconds to thaw once you put them in,they don't dry out and they stay colder longer when you take the can with you.

Snus is pretty robust and doesn't actually go bad. It will dry out and loose some flavor over time but it's still good to use. It will last a long time in the fridge and even longer in the freezer. Kind of depends on how .... you want to get. I keep my main stock in the freezer but have at least a dozen cans in the fridge. That's just me as I don't like digging in the freezer to often. I take out what I need for the day so I don't have full cans sitting out at room temperature.

The Onyx was to strong for me, but then I'm a bit of a lightweight as I don't do anything stronger then regular 8 mg portions. The Onyx is about 40% stronger then regular portions. Lots of people like it though and do very well on stronger stuff... but something to keep in mind

I usually use only one thunder berry portion a day and keep a can of that and a few others in my desk drawer that it takes me at least a few weeks to use. I keep them in these zip baggies that we use at work and that seems to keep them pretty fresh. They do dry out a little bit but are still fine to use and still taste really good.

    Thanks everyone for the insight.

Figured I'd add that my snus has apparently arrived at my house. I ordered on thursday, so not counting the weekend it only took a few days to get here from Northerner's PA warehouse and the shipping was only $13, which is odd since the last time I checked the shipping was $19, perhaps they found a way to lower the cost. I can't wait to try some of this Onyx.

I've kind slipped over the last couple weeks, got some cans of General that were kind of dry, so I started having a couple dips a day and I believe that upped my nicotine needs by quite a bit. I'm going to stop with the dip, it seems way harsher on my mouth but more importantly, its just a mess and not discrete at all. Anyways, maybe I'll take some shots of the Onyx and do a review or something.

Has there been a thread of reviews?

I think there is a favorites and least favorites thread buried somewhere here

Yeah, there's actually a couple, but by and large it seems that every snus tastes a little different to everybody. Sometimes I'll read a review of one I use and see where the reviewer has picked up some subtle note I couldn't detect until I'd read about it. Then there's the raving ones I read about something I'd rather use for fertilizer and can't figure out how someone else is able to find all that goodness. It's always fun to read reviews :).

I'm just a craft beer geek, so I'm used to photographing and writing up reviews of all the new beers I try. I'm not sure I really have the skills to do that with snus yet.

Anyways, Onyx is damn good. Definitely enough nicotine, I didn't even think once about dipping. The taste lasted forever, I finally just got tired of having the thing in my mouth, the flavor was there strong for an hour solid, I'd guess it could go a good deal further. The flavor itself is very much the General flavor but more refined. A bit more citrus, a bit less salt, and smoother. Less brash, a real soft flavor. I dig it. Everyone seems to really love the can presentation, mine was covered in stickers so the can looks like crap really after picking all that off, but I do like these black, white portions.

Onyx is definitely one of my favorites. I believe it is a finer grain, and the pouches are more evenly packed. Nice kick too. Its my favorite after-dinner snus. Many do not like the more bitter ones, like Jakobson's, but I love their regular and ice-fruit. In fact, I have tried about every one Northerner sells out of PA, and I've yet to find one that offends me. Some quit sooner than I would like, like Offroad, but they are pleasant.

For times when I want to snus but I don't want a big portion bulging my lip out, I like Fellini mini mints, which have a chocolate taste along with the mint. Very nice, and I'm surprised that a mini still does it for me for long stretches. And minis, unlike regular portions, do not ever give me hiccups.

I remember Vaporer or someone saying something before about getting the hiccups from getting too much nic. I've never experienced that. I can use a 16mg portion along with some snuff in the morning and have never gotten hiccups. Not that I want them, I just think it's odd how it affects some people like that.

If you like Jakobson's you may want to try the Gotlandsnus line. Made by the same people. Has a slight bitterness to it but I like it. I'm big on Gotlands yellow loose but I want to go back and try the Gotlands grey (licorice) again as it's been awhile.

I had to stop using Onyx because of the hiccups. Couldn't even imagine doing a thunder other then the minis. Guess I'm just a lightweight.... but then I weigh 125 soaking wet.
