I didn't realize some silica may need torching and some don't. I've only used some 3mm I'd bought that was pretty funky without torching, but just got 10ft of better quality braided silica. I torched the first one I did, but should try doing one without torching to see if this one actually needs it. If not, that 10ft will be a lot of butane saved lol.

Yea, it's weird how some tastes okay and some doesn't. I'm still fairly new to the rba game so I've only bought silica from 3 places so far. I'm still on the hunt for the place with the best tasting silica.

I use pure cotton yarn from walmart 3mm. Just boil, dry, wrap a coil and vape. Gotta keep em wet though cuz the coil will burn em. Dry hits are no where near as harsh as silica. You'll get warmer than usual vapes when its time to drip.

I bow down the the KING of VAPOR- Hail King BeanPusher !!!
I swear, my little 400 watt fog machine does not push the vape as well as you.
Fantastic vid. well done man.

Went to my local vape shop and picked up a mech mod. Gonna venture into the SLR world. :evil grin:

Do you boil/soak everything just for assurance, bean, or is this suggested/recommended/advised for silica/cotton? I got some 2mm cotton from my SS mesh purchase on eBay, but I haven't tried it yet.

I freaking love this little dripper, it is great. I havent been able to go super low though, using an evic, it doenst like anything below 1.2 ohm and sometime even 1.2 will work. Do like this RDA though. It is my first truly rebuildable. I made my wicks out of .8 silica and like 9 of them and it smokes like a train.

It uses like 8 strands of silica right? Has anyone tried like 2or 3 strands of 2-3 mm on it? I have some thin silica just wondering if the thick works the same.

I'm using 3mm silica DC with double loop at .8 with 4 wraps of 32 kanthal(6' of silica doubled over 4 wraps at each end then looped and set in the atty) and it's working very well.I dropped 20 drops on initial fire up with this build and it did not leak. This is the ultimate juice catcher build.

Nice! 20 drops is a good capacity for a dripper. I may pick one up to play with. I've been getting bored with the phoenix heh.

Yup, I use a 3mm silica wick doubled over twice, too, in one of my RDA's. Still playing with the other one. :D

Tried a dual coil with twisted 32ga kanthal with 4 wraps around the same length of silica and got 0.5ohms. Ha-cha-cha this is now my favorite afternoon vape (a little too intense for me in the morning with 24mg nic).

LOL, yeah the 35W is wicked.

For what it's worth, I'm going to have to recoil it (or buy another RDA, hehe) when I start using my ShortStop. I'm just waiting for it to arrive. IDK why, but I'm still a little paranoid about using a mech mod. Unfortunately, at 0.5ohm's, the 8A would trip the ShortStop. :/

As long as you take short draws and not long out draws you will be fine. That is the best thing about sub ohm coils and mech.'s,the intense vape you get.DC at .8 is just fine,i am waiting on some ribbon, and 30awg wire to come in and start using my ceramic rope with the RDA.I have been keeping the rope for use on my Terminator but now i want to see how well it works with this too with .5 x.1 ribbon.

Yeah, the short draws are what I'm liking the most about sub-ohm vaping. I just did the math, though, and 0.5 would be a bit too low for the ShortStop, but .8 is just right...on a fresh battery.

Good luck with the .5x.1 ribbon. Let us know how it goes.
I've been tempted to order a spool myself, but I think I'm going to hold out until I can also order some FC2K for my genni's.

BTW, anyone else notice this with their RDA's? My 2nd one has brass (plated?) posts and screws.

Yea mine came like that too.I got mine on the day they were released and just automatically thought, since it was an ERA clone basically,it would be SS on the inside, wrong.I have 4 pics i have posted up on the "Octopus RDA" thread if you want to see the DC set up,you will also see the disappointing brass too.

How low can you go with the short stop? I just got 2 of them in the mail. So far a 1ohm is fine, but I want to make some more ones and wasn't quite sure how it would be affected

This RDA is So Good...I had to start a thread !
For 10 bucks, the SmokTech RDA ( I think they call it the Octopus) is a MAGIC vape producing unit.

i got mine last week, and mounted it on my Natural. WOW !
Smooth Draw, Clean Taste of my Juice, Clouds of Vapor Production....
easy peasy drip refill- and holds a lot of juice. Looks great on the Natural....LOVE !
This has got to be the best inexpensive RDA on the market. Cost 1/3 of my Vision ET...And works every bit as well.

It does have a couple of 'would have been nice's':
it is aluminum- maybe they will make one in Stainless someday.
(but it is solid enough, looks 'industrial', can be modded....and cost less)
Kinda wish it had screw on threads, it is a push on with two o rings for seals.
(I see why they did it that way...you turn the unit to align the air hole, couldn't do that if threaded).

Watched a couple of reviews by - think it is Bong24 on YouTube last night...
He liked his also, and added three air holes, 1/16" in the upper shoulder....
but I could not take a drill to mine yet, until I get three or four more in my hands.
It just works so well !
:smokie:

What's the atty connection like on it? Could it easily be modded to work on a bottom feeder?

Well, the ShortStop has a 5A limit. In a perfect world with no voltage drops and a new battery, that's about .8ohms. Of course, once the voltage drops, you could take it lower. I'm mainly going to use it when wrapping/testing new coils that are too low for my eVic to fire.
