But it was a beautiful day and I hope everyone had a good Tuesday! And by the time our friends on the other side of the globe read this, it will be morning for them so Good Morning!

I will be back on schedule tomorrow I am sure but this old man is tired as all get out right now. Going to eat a bite and put my behind in bed! :)

Goooood Morning Major!

I'm still awake at this unEarthly hour due to my work schedule 5PM-5AM! When I was younger I used to love to stay up late...even all night; now I long to sleep in the darkness and rise early but my schedule forbids it!

Here is a little bit of poetry I have come to really enjoy over the years. I hope you like it and it adds a little something good to your day.

"Life is like a jagged tooth that cuts into your heart.
Fix the tooth, and save the root and laughs, not tears will start."

-Grace Treasone

God bless you mightily, Major, this thread, and all of the wonderful souls who have posted with such sincerity.

P.S. CAW!

Good Afternoon Major!

Sorry I'm late! Must be around lunch time over there.

Sammie in the sun- just the thing! Here, we cooked up a pile of irish stew with dumplings, meat, potatoes and butternut. There's been a cold, wet blast from the South. To think, that air has probably been breathed by penguins on the ice. Certainly felt like it!

My tropical birds are enjoying the leftovers- because in the Amazon or the Indian Sub Continent, suet dumplings and potatoes are the norm

Good to hear you are up and moving Major. Keep that sun above you.

:)

Good "early morning" major!

Stumbled across this today and read through all of it.

Glad your back on track. Deffinately could use your wisdom around here. Lots of us noobs (got my first gg item end of June) need a vet like yourself to guide us.

My grandfather has taught me may things growing up and now I find I'm more like him because of it. I want to be like you - a strong fighter. Someone who went through so much yet will still help out someone he does not know without thinking.

Need you around so I can take some of your knowledge, attitude and strength and pass it on to the next crew of noob ggers and even my family.

"Hope this made sense - under the weather and tired"

Either way - GOOD MORNING :)

Good morning Major and everyone from the beautiful Greek island of Cefalonia.

As luck would have it Cefalonia is right next to the island of Ithaki where Penelope the wife of Odysseus was waiting for him to return from the Trojan war. The return to Ithaki took Odysseus 10 years. I had Odysseus in my hand right next to Penelope as our ship past Ithaki.

The more detailed story is as follows:

Odysseus' return from Troy, chronicled in the Odyssey, took ten years and was beset by perils and misfortune. He freed his men from the pleasure-giving drugs of the Lotus-Eaters, rescued them from the cannibalism of the Cyclopes and the enchantments of Circe. He braved the terrors of the underworld with them, and while in the land of the dead Hades allowed Thiresias, Odysseus' mother, Ajax and others to give him adivice on his next journey. They gave him important advice about the cattle of the sun (which Apollo herds), Scylla and Charybdis and the Sirens. From there on the travels were harder for Odysseus, but they would have been much worse of it wasn't for the help of the dead.
With this newly acquired knowledge, he steered them past the perils of the Sirens and of Scylla and Charybdis. He could not save them from their final folly, however, when they violated divine commandments by slaughtering and eating the cattle of the sun-god. As a result of this rash act, Odysseus' ship was destroyed by a thunderbolt, and only Odysseus himself survived. He came ashore on the island of the nymph Calypso, who made him her lover and refused to let him leave for seven years. When Zeus finally intervened, Odysseus sailed away on a small boat, only to be shipwrecked by another storm. He swam ashore on the island of the Phaeacians, where he was magnificently entertained and then, at long last, escorted home to Ithaki.
There were problems in Ithaki as well, however. During Odysseus' twenty-year absence, his wife, Penelope, had remained faithful to him, but she was under enormous pressure to remarry. A whole host of suitors were occupying her palace, drinking and eating and behaving insolently to Penelope and her son, Telemachus. Odysseus arrived at the palace, disguised as a ragged beggar, and observed their behavior and his wife's fidelity. With the help of Telemachus and Laertes, he slaughtered the suitors and cleansed the palace. He then had to fight one final battle, against the outraged relatives of the men he had slain; Athena intervened to settle this battle, however, and peace was restored.
