I am new. I apologize if my question seems like it should be an easy answer. I am absolutely horrible at math. I have been looking for an easy way to make my own ejuice but have a fear of working with pure nicotine due to the dangers of it that I've read about. I found found a site liquidnicotinewholesalers (due to being new I can't post the link) but you can type that into your browser and add "dot com" to the end of it if you need to see it to help me understand. I am looking at purchasing 500ml of unflavored eliquid at a 6mg nic 70vg/30pg ratio. From what I understand adding flavor will dilute the mg of nic a little bit. I would be mixing into 15ml unicorn bottles and of course since it is completely premixed I would only need to add flavoring to taste. Is this correct? If so in a 15ml bottle if I add 1ml of flavor (more or less to taste)how much would it dilute the 6mg nic? If it is a significant amount more than one mg less than 6mg nic what is your suggestion other
than buying super strength?

If you want to try a 5% flavor strength (a good start for a simple one-flavor batch), adding about 1ml to about 19ml of your 70/30 nicotine base, you'd end up with about 20ml of flavored juice.

Start small, go slow, and don't worry if you mess up. Even Michael Phelps started out in the shallow end.

I would order the pg/vg base pre-mixed and order 100mg nic separately to avoid the issue of diluting.

Adding 1ml of flavor to 14ml of 6mg base will give you 5.6mg liquid, see below

14ml of 6mg is a total of 84mg's of nic, add 1ml of flavor = 15ml total liquid
84mg's of nic divided by 15ml of liquid = 5.6mg/ml

Assuming the one I linked is the correct one:
Go to the same website and use their DIY Liquid Calculator. It is essential to use a calculator
Input all your information:
First box: How much you want to make (15ml) how strong you want it (say 6 for 6 mg) and pg vg ratio and since you are buying premixed just put 50 at each column
Next box: How much nicotine (not sure what you have or are buying but 100 is best and I use 50/50 blend of pgvg but you would add all of that there
Last box is your flavoring. Since you are so new at this buy some one shots and add about 15% to start.
Look below and all your calculations are there

Also when it shows how much Pg to add and how much VG to add you have to add those two number together and add that amount.
Do you have a recipe? Most juices take more than one flavor. Like if you bought Apple Pie, you would have to add other things to get the taste of Apple Pie. That one flavor alone would not do it.
This place also sells flavorings. Google E Liquid recipes and find an easy one with only a few flavorings

I have no idea how you got this answer but words don't express how much I appreciate it! Until I am confident making my own flavors and working with higher levels of nicotine to be diluted down, this was the easy answer I needed!

Thank you so much! I know I am not ready to go below 5mg, don't want to drop to soon and end up going back to cigarettes. I actually enjoy not smelling like I stopped, dropped and rolled in an ashtray for the first time in 16 years!

MrsWood in time when you get comfortable buying separate pg and vg and nic and comfortable using a calculator you will save a lot of money and say to yourself wow this is nice .
Been a diy for sometime now and very happy this route was chosen as i make plain menthol for the Mrs and plain real cig for me nothing fancy all we vape for years now.

If you are current using 6mg/ml 70VG/30PG Flavored e-Liquids, then buying 6mg/ml 70VG/30PG Unflavored Nicotine Base and then adding your own flavors/sweetener would be a Great Way to start doing DIY.

And I would be Surprised if you could tell the difference between 6mg/ml and say 5.5mg/ml because it was slightly Diluted by adding Flavors/Sweetener.

And All the Money you will be Saving by not Buying Retail e-Liquids will more than Pay For the Flavorings and Miscellaneous DIY supplies that you will need.

I thought I told you I was bad at math?

It would take it to about 5.5-5.6mg, give or take 0.1 or so to account for mixing and measuring not-quite -perfect. It's not enough to worry much about. The idea is to get something that tastes good and usually, close is good enough.

It's still a good idea to find a vape juice calculator that you like and let it do the math for you. And write stuff down so that when you find a mix that rolls your socks up and down you can do it again when you run low.

I'm new here, but I'm kinda a math geek, so I'll spell it out (for anyone else that comes along...)
6mg nicotine means 6mg nic in ea (aka per) ml of the base / unflavored juice.
So 14 ml of that juice has 84 mg of nic (14x6).
Adding a ml of flavor doesn't change the amount of nic. It just changes how much juice to 15.
The calculation for the new ratio is (juice ml) divided by the (nic mg); 15 / 84 = 5.6

Two things...

First, for the way we refer to Nicotine Levels, as mg/ml, add Flavoring to Nicotine Base (or anything that does not contain More Nicotine than the Nicotine Base) lowers the mg/ml level.

And second, you have that Division Backwards. It should be 84 / 15 = 5.6

If you decide to go for the 6mg/mL strength, and don't want to go below 5mg/mL, You can use up to 16.667% flavoring (that would be 2.5mL of your 15mL bottles).

(If you are interested in the math; it is as follows
5/6 = 0.83333 or 83.333%
Meaning: 83.333% (minimum) of any recipes you make (with the 6mg.mL nic base) must be of your base to stay at, or above, the 5mg/mL threshold you set. This also happens to mean the maximum amount of flavor you can use is 16.667% (100% - 83.333% = 16.667%)

15mL<bottle size> X 0.83333<percentage> = 12.49995mL<base volume>
(close enough to call it 12.5mL 6mg/mL base).

15mL<bottle size> - 12.5mL<base volume> = 2.5mL <flavor concentrate(s)>
(the maximum amount of "room" for flavors)

Check the math: 12.5<base> + 2.5mL<flavor> = 15mL<recipe> All is good!

So now you have a min/max recipe (minimum amount of base/maximum amount of flavor concentrates) to make 5mg/mL e-liquid in a 15mL batch size:

12.5mL 30%PG/70%VG 6mg/mL nic base
2.5mL flavor concentrate(s)

And, since I appear to be in "lecture" mode:
If I want to write this as a scalable recipe, meaning a recipe I could make any volume of; I would write it like this:

Name It (if it doesn't already have one)
83.333% 30%PG/70%VG 6mg/mL nic base
16.667% flavor concentrate(s)

Now, I can take any size of container, apply those percentages, and understand how much of each to use. By percentage; is the most common (preferred?) way one finds recipes posted on the internet.

Finally; a reminder. Just because I can use 16+% of a flavor (or combination of flavors), doesn't mean I need, or want to. Many concentrates require less (sometimes much less); while others can occasionally need more. It is always beat/easiest(?) to start low and add more if needed.

This exercise was only to establish a min/max ratio to not drop below 5mg/mL when using a 6mg/mL base.
