C) Keep it simple to begin with. Contrary to many peoples beliefs, I feel that cig-a -likes are an invaluable place to start. I am using an Apollo Extreme cig a like. If you like cig-a-likes or disposables then that's okay too. I have succeeded in quitting the analogues with cig-a-like's alone. Though I am now (after 2 weeks of vaping) so ready to try the next best thing with (an ego) because I want a better battery & a stronger vapor/flavor experience.

...

I would like to emphasize that part about the cigalikes because it has been my experience too. I basically discovered ecigs in July 2013, and had my last regular cigarette in August 2013; during that few weeks in between I was mainly using cigalikes and especially disposables.

I probably spent about 3 months worth what I would have spent on cigarettes making the same mistake as you Riley: you got a unit using some older threading but what has become the standard now is the eGo/510 threading.

I've still got 2 "Suprecigarette" packs and dozens of flavor cartridges for it; as well as a "South Beach Smoke" one which uses some strange threading kind of the reverse threading to the 510.

You experience is not unusual, but you will get past it and in the longer term you WILL $save$ money.

Went to the B&M today. Was gonna pick up an eGo twist but they didn't have the twist. They did have an Itaste that was variable voltage but I'm am worried to stray from the common recommendation being the eGo.

I wouldn't worry about variable voltage to start with.

Just adds more complications to start with.

Keep it Simple.

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have to say I am overwhelmed with all the information available here. You guys seem to really know your stuff. I just hope I can figure this whole thing out. I consider myself an intelligent individual but right now I feel like I got myself in over my head.

Decided to make the switch and get off the Marlboros, analogs you call them? Anyways went to my local smokeshop which after coming here I discovered was mistake number 1. The nice guy did set me up with a refillable pen that seemed to have good reviews. It is a Vapor-X XLT. Anyone have experience with this unit?

Before I bought this refillable I had bought a L.A. Vape disposable in "Victory Berry" flavor and it was amazing (though they don't last long the taste is top notch!). Upon buying my new pen I filled it with a VODA Vapor liquid and it is unbearable! It tastes so chemically!! Is this common with bad brands? Is there anything anybody can recommend that is comparable to the L.A. Vape disposable? Thanks for any help guys. I really want to get away from the Marlboro man. We have been friends for long enough...

Im going to be honest, i spend alot of time inside of stores and the best thing i can recommend to people to make the transition is get a name brand flavor, at least just to start off with, like a 5 pawns or space jam or fuzion or the standard. And don't get mad at yourself if you have the occasional cig. Just try not to make it a regular thing. Just don't get mad at yourself for it. I did until someone explained to me why not to get mad at myself. Try to pick a fruity flavor for the transition

My first disagreement with edyle- good sir!

I would absolutely get a VV twist to start, unless money is no issue which I'm guessing it is... they are not complicated to use, you can watch countless YouTube Vids on it... the reason I recommend it is because if you dont get one, and get into vaping completely over smoking, it will take no time at all before you will realize you want one, skip the regret and get one to start with.

I get frustrated when people get fixed voltage instead of a twist. I think vv is an absolute must for a starter. It makes for a more enjoyable experience

Yup; but I wouldn't worry about it for somebody trying to get started.

He said he passed up an eGo batt because he they didn't happen to have a vv and came away with nothing.

Quick update went with the Itazte VV and it is good. I have more to write but I've been busy today.

I think it's the Innokin iTaste VV V3.

Whatever it is, I'm glad you went with the variable option since egos are all constant besides the twist. I have an ego batt. and wish I had gone for the vv, atleast could've had more control over the vape.

Anyways let us know what it is, what clearomizer/tank did you go for, and your experience.

Correct. Decided to go with the Innokin iTaste VV and I feel that I made a good choice. It does have options that are over my head as a beginner (Variable Voltage, Variable Wattage) but it has some cool features that I think a beginner would find attractive such as the puff counter. The other feature that I have found is that it can tell you the ohms but I don't know anything about that yet.

The main reason for going with this unit is the fact that it can be used as a passthrough while charging using any android charging cord. This fact made it a no brainer for me. With this feature I feel I can get by with just one battery since I can puff while charging!

For tanks, I first went with KangerTech T3S. It is all they had at the shop I was visiting. I don't really like this tank because I noticed that it leaked when laying in my door handle. Also I sometimes get liquid that comes up through the mouth piece for some reason.

I also got a Mini ProTank II to try out. At a different shop I went to visit the lady had a lot of good things to say about this tank and said that it should leak less than the T3S. So I sprung for 1. She upgraded my coils to a higher ohm which was nice. She said if I use the itaste at higher voltage I could pop the standard coil.

All in all I am happy with my purchase and am puffing away delightfully. I got a couple tasty flavors to hold me off. I am going to start experimenting with the variables of the itaste sometime soon. The only thing that I have figured out is that the flavor of my cherry limeade liquid is better at 4.0 but I haven't really pushed it further than that.

Thanks for all the help getting me started everyone. I cant explain how awesome the help was.

Thanks for the quick replys everyone. I really appreciate it. I will probably head to a vapor store this weekend to try some samples. I will probably want to stick to B&M locations for convenience.

I keep hearing people talking about "steeping" the liquids. What exactly does this entail? Thanks for clarifying for a noob!
It allows some flavors to age and blend better. You can also age a bottle with the cap off if it has too much alcohol in it. This could be why you were getting a chemical flavor. But for me there was also a harsh throat hit and greatly diminished vapor production when I experienced too much alcohol.

That's Great News! So glad you got ahold of a mini protank2.
If it came with a metal tip you might find you want to get a replacement plastic tip/mouthpiece or else wrap something over it (I use plummers tape).
For a hassle free vape, try the Wattage setting on you iTaste. It's almost like setting the temperature. between 6 and 8 watts is common I think.

Glad you found some tasty flavours; keep in mind, over the next few weeks your own tastebuds are going to change.

And if you like being able to plug in and passthrough while your battery is charging, how'd you like plugging in with NO battery:

Well look at you, talking bout ohm meters and protanks and all that!!! Congrats for not giving up and giving this vaping thing another shot. You have come a long long way already and the journey will be a fun one. Cheers!

Thanks I feel like I am getting the hang of things. I was definitely over complicating things. Once you take vocabulary out of the equation and start thinking in simple terms it all makes sense. Once I was able to, in my mind, simplify things to the basics (obtain battery, obtain tank, obtain flavor), it became easier to get my head around everything.

What is it that bugs you with the metal tip? I haven't really used it much yet.

For a hassle free vape, try the Wattage setting

I am confused by wattage. In my mind, voltage would equal the power going to the coil. More voltage = more heat. But now that I think about it a higher wattage bulb produces higher light/heat. Now I am confusing myself.

And if you like being able to plug in and passthrough while your battery is charging, how'd you like plugging in with NO battery:

This is next on the shopping list.

As far as voltage/wattage goes. The easiest way to look at it is this. You can set the voltage OR set the wattage. If you use the wattage setting it will automatically set the voltage based on the ohms in your tank. Your device will sort it all out. Now, if you want to fine tweak the voltage, use the voltage mode. In wattage mode, the device sorts it out for you. In voltage mode, you have to set the voltage yourself. Its kind of like manual vs. automatic.
