Hello there ECF! Hope you're all having a wonderful day, for I certainly am not.
Today my battery died on me at work, and I had to deal with the nic jitters all day.
I came up with an idea that might suit my needs for a device that doesn't depend on electricity.
Now I'm no authority on vaping, and I'm still pretty much new to the vaping world.
But I'd like to throw it out there and see if someone sees any sense in it.

What I was thinking of is a manual vaporizer, that depends on an external heat source to vaporize the e-juice.
It would come down to the image below:
________
|............: |_^_________ .
| TANK :*: ____TUBE__===
|______:_|

* gas-permeable membrane
. drip tip
^ airflow ring

What you'd do is unscrew the tank off of the membrane, and fill it with liquid, then screw it onto the membrane again.
The membrane is nothing more than a small piece of aluminum with tiny holes in it, that allow the vapour to go through, but not the liquid.
When you heat up the tank with a lighter for example, vapour will come through the membrane and it can be used like a regular analog.
I think the liquid would have to be at least 50% VG for the difference in density of the liq and vapour to work with this.

The question is, would this work? And would this provide the right amount and taste/temp of flavour, and throat hit?
If the theory is sound, I could see if I could have one built, and then I'll post the results later.

chasing the dragon with ejuice?

I'm having visions of you {USING} ejuice on some foil...

the problem with a "Lighter" is you can't really regulate heat, without the dynamics of what all that'd entail, what do you hold the tank with? the carmelization process/that's a lot of juice to heat up to produce vapor and all of that I'd not, lets just say that.

your battery died;

maybe keep one of these for backup.

Why not just get something like this:

The problem with your idea is that you would have to heat up all the liquid in the tank. An e-cigarette works by getting a very small quantity of liquid hot enough to vaporize. Tiny bits of juice evaporate, and pull larger "blobs" of vapor out with them. It's a very different process than boiling!

Your device would just try to boil the liquid, which won't work.

Somewhere out there
Wouldn't it be just as easy to carry a spare ecig

Good try friend
I just keep a backup set with me . I mean a set if my tank brakes I got one with me the coil,battery, out of juice cover you ....
Having a backup is the only way not to be left out into the cold .
I will never smoke again ! Lol

Say yes to backups!

I don't worry about having a backup with me if I'm going to be out for 4 hours or less. But when I'm out all day, I'll take a second complete setup. As backup to the backup, I have a Fling disposable in my bag.

Thank you for all the replies, admittedly yes, you can't get any more fancy than what is essentially a {DEVICE FOR "OTHER STUFF"} if you're going for the caveman method.
On the other hand it will work 100% of the time, at least 50% of the time if you learn how to heat it properly. Provided ofcourse the math works out.

I have resorted to back-ups in the mean time, especially the usb-passthrough, which made me think again, why not connect a 25000mah powerbank with usb to your passthrough? Would that even be possible?

I agree with the "just carry a backup" sentiment... That's what I do... However, I do kinda understand.... I carry an MVP2 around a lot as a spare "just in case", but that also means I have to remember to charge it, etc... Yeah, I carry it because it can passthrough, and as long as I have a charge cable around I can use it in a pinch, but still, I get that it's a pain in the .......

If you were looking for something that truly needed no maintenance or battery of any kind, then you would want to look at something that uses jet atomization. (think nebulizer). Basically you're just reducing compressed air into a very very tiny nozzle, which generates high velocity and passes through a liquid, then once it expands is atomized. You could probably just carry the hose and end off a nebulizer (which could be bought cheaply at any medical supply store) and a bicycle pump or something like that...

But I guess this brings me to one question.... Rather a {DEVICE FOR "OTHER STUFF"} (LMFAO, thanks for that btw), a nebulizer, or whatever... It's all just a lot of work... I mean if it's really that bad and you need your nic fix, just pour some juice on the back of your palm and rub it in... shouldn't take long for the nic to absorb in... Or I suppose you could drop it in your eye like the other guy if you really wanted to... LOL!!! (Thanks for that too btw!!!)

I'll share a story but don't I really really really won't recommend it
I once had a eliquid accident where a few drops landed on my eye, it began immediately to burn so Y rinsed it a lot. but I realized that I didn't need to vape for a few hours, I guess I had my nic fix!

Might as well point out that your avatar is a pretty good "emergency" vape build! Pretty much as simple as you can get, I like it!

Sure. Make sure the powerbank can supply at least 2A of current.

We used our V2 power cig with our Anker external battery while we were on a cruise with limited outlets. The only downside was that you had to "activate" the battery by pushing the button on the battery if you stopped gaping for more than a minute or so. Otherwise, it was great!
