Same problem here. Those electric sensations were driving me crazy. Doctor didn't believe me. Thought I was having mini seizures and ordered an eeg, which was normal. But, I'll tell you, it was still easier than coming off of this Remeron. I became deathly ill both times I tried to get off. Now, I am scared, but determined to find a way. These pharma companies tend to deny it it their product causing these withdrawals, and attempt to tell you it's your symptoms recurring. Duh!

Denial is their stock-in-trade. And they're trying to say that e-cigs are more dangerous than Chantix? Uhhh... I've yet to see a single person, no matter how hypochondriac, post a msg wondering if their suicidal thoughts are from vaping. I've seen pretty much everything else, all the way from pimples to my own swollen feet/ankles, but never "suicidal ideation."

Side note: was talking to a friend yesterday who's a "chemical technician", and very, very familiar with PG from years of working in the personal hygiene product chemical manufacture industry, and he wholeheartedly agrees that large doses of PG can and will cause the foot/ankle swelling, as a side-effect of the dehydration that PG causes. So I'm feeling better about that, also that my reducing my PG consumption from 85/15 down to 67/33 seems to be starting to help a little; still some swelling, but not as bad as it was. When this batch of 67/33 is gone, I thought I'd do my next batch at 60/40.

With that remeron, it sounds like you have plenty of reason to be scared. You said you're taking a different one now to get off the remeron without the ghastly illness? Is that working ok?

I still think that doctors/BP have a racket going on. Docs prescribe something that they KNOW will cause some side effects that will GUARANTEE a "return customer" for many years, so they can then prescribe some other products with terrible side effects.. and the cycle goes on and on...

No, I am not on something else. I just want to get off the Remeron. I am not depressed, nor was I when I started taking it. They said it would relieve my nausea from anxiety. It only worked for about 10 hours a day. Couldn't increase because of low white cell count. And now I am stuck in the hell of trying to get off of it. Totally agree they make these things addictive, so you can't get off. Gotta love BP.

Love 'em? I think they ought to be prosecuted for criminal malfeasance. But which one to start with? That's the only real question. It's hard to prosecute an entire industry. Maybe you could sue your doc for malpractice, for prescribing the stuff in the first place, considering its dangerous side effect -- without white cells you're a sitting duck for any microbe, no matter how otherwise harmless.

They all cover their butts quite well. There is a tiny precaution in the pamphlet that says it can cause low white cell count. I am managing to get it back up near normal, but I have to work at it every day. Take beta glucans, drink lots of water, drink green tea, etc. It is just very irritating that I have to go through so much to keep from getting sick, and horrifying that getting off of it makes me even sicker!!

Katmar , i am not a doctor but there are some other ways to help with anti-depressant withdrawal i have heard of , which you may already be using. Vitamin b 12 is very important and the other one, b vitamins anyway. Also fatty acids help and sunshine, as much sinshine as possible , and exercise and healthy nourishing food, but you probably already know that. There is something called 5htp which is an amino acid and naturally occuring in the brain , no research on it yet , but that is because it is no-patentable so know one wants to fund the research. Lots of people use it however and there has been very little adverse effects reported and is apparently very effective . I think you can probably pick it up from a good health food shop. Hope this is of some help and that you are feeling not to bad today, it sounds terrible

Thank you, first and foremost. I have tried the Vitamin B thing, to no avail. I can only get so much sunshine because I also have MS, and the sun can cause an exacerbation, but I still get out in it as much as I can. I swim at the Y once or twice a week, try more for twice, but doesn't always work out that way..lol... Eat as healthy as I can. That has gotten much better in the last year, as before that I was living mostly on crackers and ginger ale and applesauce. 5htp made me sick. The thing with weaning off of this drug is that it causes intense nausea among other things, which is one of the reasons I went on it, to get rid of the nausea. And when I say intense, I really mean it.

There will come a day when I will be able to get off of it and it will probably take at least a year to do so. Extremely slow tapering. Even then, I will have withdrawals, but hope to be able to manage them better. The tapering is very involved with a liquid titration that I have to mix myself. Working up the nerve to do it.

It's not as terrible as it used to be (my anxiety, that is), hence I want off of this awful drug.

I know these drugs that do things to the chemistry of your brain are, in some ways, a real godsend; I really wouldn't have survived without the Effexor. But it seems like one of those cases of "it's not NICE to fool mother nature!" and she gets royally ...... about it when you do, and makes you suffer for it terribly. I took a year or more to get off that Effexor, and yeah, still had those electrical BZZT! shoot thru my brain and eyes and whole body on a regular basis. Nausea, I really could not deal with at all -- I was a very happy drunk till I got to the point where it made me sick all the time, and then I said hello to Bill W and byebye to beer! :D

I gave up beer many years ago. Didn't go well with the MS. I was already a bit off balance. Beer didn't help. But I think it kept my anxiety at bay, as did smoking. Then, when some pretty bad things happened, the anxiety hit full force. I had nothing to blunt it with (beer or cigs) and became really ill. Learning to accept those anxious feelings and not fight them are what got me to a better place. I am still a work in progress....:). Took me 3 years to come to that conclusion, so recovery is slow, but I keep moving forward one step at a time. That is also why I want off of the remeron. It serves no purpose for me.
