Hey everyone im Steve, im from Louisiana. Im 34 and i smoke about a pack a day of Marlboro red 72's. I really want to try the ecig thing but i have no idea were to start, iv looked at a couple of sites but they just seem to look all the same to me. I would love to find something that had heavy vapor and a Marlboro taste. But also i dont want to be spending more on ecigs than i am on cigs right now, but i really wanting to quit smoking so i might have to spend a little more. Anyway can anyone help point me in the right direction please, Thanks:smokie:

Find a good starter kit Ego or spinner. Stay away from the cigalikes they are by far the least likely to help you succeed. I don't know much about tobacco flavors. My thinking was to get away from analogs and wanted to get my nic and have good flavor that didn't taste like analogs. The flavors out there taste way better than analogs anyway. Good luck I hope this helps. Welcome to EFC!

Hi Steve!

Best case is if you have a vape shop nearby. Walk in and say "I am a noob!" I am sure that they will help you find the right flavors/system to get you going. Most shops will let you try flavors until you find one that you like. The initial investment may seem like a lot of dough, but after that it can save money!

Other than that I agree with Raynman about getting a kit with some juice. I too smoked a pack a day for almost 35 years and wanted to start with something similar to tobacco to make the transition easier.
After about a week I found some flavors that were out of this world and moved away from the harsher tobaccos. Flavors are like food not everyone will like what you like and vice versa. To each his own!

Good luck and welcome to ECF!

I just started myself, but here's my two cents. Find a local place if you can, and get started. See what they recommend in your budget, and ditch the regular cigarettes. There is so much to learn, and that will take some time.

I'm on day 3 of no cigarettes after 25 years of over a PAD of M Reds. This has been a great experience so far, and I'm absolutely confident I won't light up ever again. Dive in, and go for it! :)

I'll also recommend an eGo setup. The following link shows what an ideal eGo battery setup should look like, and can be purchased for under $100. I've included links to show how the batteries and juice delivery devices are used. You can purchase everything at AltSmoke.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...06-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html

I've made a picture dictionary of the more common juice delivery devices, again with videos of how they are used here:

Most vendor websites sell the e-liquid that you'll need. Expect to use about 3 - 5 ml of juice a day, so you'll need at least three 30 ml bottles of juice to last the month. Most 1 ppd smokers need 18 mg nicotine in their juice.

If you are baulking at the $100 price tag for startup gear, consider how much you spent on cigarettes a month. $150 a month is typical for a pack per day smoker. Once you have your mechanical gear, you will only need to spend on e-juice, replacement juice delivery devices, and replacement parts and expect to spend way less a month than you did when smoking.

Oh, by the way, you'll never find a juice flavor that tastes like Marlboro red, or any other tobacco cigarette. It's just not possible. No one has been able to make a flavor that tastes like burning tobacco and smoke. My advice: Find another flavor, any flavor, that you might like. There are tobacco and menthol flavors that may hint at the taste of tobacco, but they won't come close to replicating a real cigarette. I suggest a fruit, candy, desert, or coffee flavor at first. You may go through numerous flavors before you find "the one" for you.

I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion, but you might consider trying a store bought disposable first.
Try not to pay too much attention to the flavor (it's probably not going to be great) and just see if the concept works for you.

That's what worked for me anyway. I went through about three disposables just to see if I thought e cigs might work for me. I was not a fan of the taste, but I could see the potential of vaping. Just know that there are some seriously great flavors out there and to keep trying lots until you find a few you like.

good luck!

I don't know about LA, but in OR, most tobacco shops carry EGO starter kits starting at about $25. These inclube a battery, 1 tank, 1 charger. The juice will run you about $6-7 per 10ml bottle. At my neighborhood shop, pretty much all the employees are vapers, so they're very helpful. Since you're a Marb smoker, you're probably going to want a juice with with nice, heavy tobacco flavor. I'm pretty new to this to, so I haven't really found a great tobacco flavor yet, but you should check out the Tobacco Flavors thread for more info on that.

I'm a marlboro red smoker too. (About a pack of 100's a day) and just joined here yesterday so I'm no expert by any means but what was recommended to me which seemed like a reasonable deal is:

Kanger eVod Kit - Black
(They also have some other colors on the site)

Comes with two batteries so you can have 1 charging at all times, 2 clearomizers (holds the nicotine juice) in case 1 messes up, and replacement heads/parts for the clearomizers as well, and your charger.

I was also recommended to this site for nicotine juices. Choose your strength. (I went with extra strong to start)
Best E Cigarette | Buy Electronic Cigarettes | E Cig Juice - MT Baker Vapor

They are reasonably priced compared to some sites. They have lots of unique flavors to try out as well as tobacco flavors.

Anyways, can't really give a review, waiting for my orders in the mail but seems legit to me. -crosses fingers- :D

What worked for me is ditching the Tabacco flavors. I started with cinnamon and have progressed to coffee flavors which for me are the best. The funny thing is I am not a coffee drinker. Who would have thought.

This +1. When I quit, I made the decision to drop tobacco flavors as well. Second advice, buy samples. I have tried all the below so far only a little over a month into it. Of the vendors I have tried so far, AiV seems to be leading the pack. I've only tried two of the six samples and both have been awesome.

Five Pawns Grandmaster
Five Pawns Absolute Pin
Five Pawns Gambit
Five Pawns Bowden's Mate
Five Pawns Queenside

Steve, last week I bought a Square Premium e-Cig Red starter pack. (Green is menthol). The kit was only $19 online, I went to find a smoke shop, and it was $25 (no shipping). They have little boxes you can see on Google that have 5 cartridges for $15. A 5 pack is equal to a carton! That's $40 for a starter kit that includes 2 red (Marlboro) cartridges and the long part is the battery. It comes with a USB charger, so you only have to plug it into your computer and wait for it go from red to green. I called my shop yesterday and found out they have a car cigarette chargers and wall chargers. Only $5 for each of them. Try itl I LOVE it. It's the most complete kit and you can choose your own levels, if you want to move down. If you start out with Square at a local smoke shop, that's all of $50...$25 Kit, $15 for a 5 pack = carton, $10 for other plug ins. You can't buy a carton for that!
I am not addicted to nicotine, I just started 7/3 and I've moved down to blanks since 7/6. Just go down as fast as you want or can. You will save money starting now! :toast:

That's a great post, Baditude. There's so much good advice, and helpful information in there for us beginners. I really appreciated the pics in the links. Until now, I didn't know the difference between a carto, and a clearo. Now I know what I've been using for the past few days. LOL

If those links aren't a sticky in the new members area, they should be. Good Stuff! Thanks :)

I smoke Marlboro Lights and Pall Mall lights and wanted something tobacco too. Best I've found so far (just my opinion) is Heather's Heavenly Vapes "Dragon's Fire" or "Legend." You are able to select your PG/VG ratio at check out too, and the higher VG the more vapor production. Last bottle I ordered I got 50/50 and it's pretty darn satisfying. But yea, like has been said, I've found nothing so far that duplicates a cigarette completely. :2c:

Thats the way I went. Its a small price to pay to learn if I could do this on a full time basis. Then I did the trying the sample bottles bit to find the juice or me. And the biggest help I got was from the people I work with. They kept and still keep showing me their new juices. That really helps me figure out whats for me and whats not.

Sorry Steve I went off track, remember switching from cigs to vaping is not an instant thing, you have to make an effort. Especially first thing in the morning, but after 5 minutes of vaping the worst cigarette craving of the day is gone. OH, vapor is different from smoke, its takes a little bit to get used to it, but well worth it.
