I was helping a girlfriend move today and we stopped for lunch. I finished eating, put my little case on the table and vaped. The girl cleaning the tables (she might have been a manager, she was wearing a tie) saw me and didn't say anything.

My friend's boyfriend asked me about it and said he would want to try it, but wouldn't use mine because he had a cold. Another friend asked if it was just a fashion thing (Penstyles are fashionable, are they not?) or does it actually work.

The smoker in the group said he'll just stick with his filthy habbit and went outside in the snow for a "real cigarette."

My girlfriend, on the other hand, thinks I should just quit smoking/vaping altogether (to paraphrase.) If she doesn't stop with her snide remarks, she's going to be an EX friend.

Smokers look down on us because PVs are not really cigarettes, and anti-smokers look down on us because PVs are just another way to smoke.

Sigh!

Honestly, I could not care less about what other people think. I'm just happy knowing that I'm not killing myself with cigs anymore, and I feel much better.

If she doesn't quit making the snide remarks she going to be an ex. It just goes to show you that the addiction to nicotine is far greater than relationships. I have been married 36 years and who hate to decide between him and my nicotine..

Actually, I think it has more to do with the fact that if someone keeps making snide remarks at your expense, are they really a friend?

I don't know about you, but I don't have friends like that.

Not a drama queen thing to say, IMO.
Some smokers can be pretty defensive about the habit and I'm guessing the attitude to vapers might be the same as to quitters...as if you're being haughty or something.

And as for nonsmokers...well, I've got family wondering aloud if this "e-cig thing" is "something you're just using to transition off smoking, right...?"

(And the beggars around here don't like me now 'cause I'm not giving away a cigarette anymore... I was always on my "last pack" and feeling generous, y'know... Eh.)

No, it's not bothersome to me, but I can see how it might be if these issues are more entangled with one's social circle or loved ones.

Since I can't smoke FSC's and my supply of nonFSC was always dwindling I never bummed anyone a smoke for the last year or so. people would get mad, in some cases close to blows but, i explained to them that i was smoking the ciggerette worlds version of eating an extinct animal. you want one of my non FSCs? sure, 10 dollars please!

Now I can't wait for it to happen so i can say "no I don't smoke" and blow a huge vape cloud in their direction.

On the positive note, you might have made one convert, so it wasn't all bad.

There's no way to win over rabid anti-smokers so I don't even try.

It is definitely a roller coaster ride IMO. I have some friends that think vaping is bizarre because its fake and cheating to them, and think its a waste of money. Then I've got my family who thinks its pretty much a joke. The beauty of vaping... it's new, your going to run into the good and bad social experience, but its up to you with what you want to do with those experience from there. A real friend would be supportive.... not negative. All I would do is warn them a few times that they've crossed a line. If they still insist on you changing because to them its dumb then their the dumb ones for not listening to you speak out on how you felt when you warn them.

Let me just tell you! :)
I don't care who thinks i'm "tacky" if i vape and here's why..

I used to smoke a pack a day. Coughing, wasting money, stinking, having to go out and buy a pack in the freezing weather every day, and the list goes onnnn and on.

By vaping alone, i got rid of 90% of the things i hated about smoking but i still have everything i like about smoking. I hit my buddy's cigarette and didn't even like it. That makes me happy.

I can go to coney (with my white 510 with orange LED) and noone even notices. I'm not a burden to anyone, and if someone does say somthing it's usually regaurding their curiosity.

GL and happy vaping!
