New contacts installed, thank you Rob!!!!! Duel 0.37ohm in the Cyclone and single 0.67ohm in the RM2.

I'm in lung roasting sub ohm heaven:D

Yes, I like bananas while I build coils:) 4 wrap 24 gauge parallel Kanthal on the Cyclone, .2 ohms. The vapor and flavor are amazing. I love a warm vape and this is definitely beyond warm. I had to change to a delrin tip after my lips melted to the SS one I had on.

I am getting a little bit of sparking, but not much. This upgrade was well worth the wait, I think it's time to list everything else in the classies.

Just got my second tumbled LP grand with the new contacts yesterday. I built a 1 ohm coil on it and it sparks with my Sony VTC4 batteries. It thought it wasnt sparking until I took it into a dark bathroom and I can see infrequent sparks. Do ground connections spark also like a positive? I wonder if my bottom button mechs spark.... Kinda bummed I need to use noalox again.

It's going to spark (it's actually called arcing)...it's the physics of electron flow...with the kind of current we're driving now, our coils(s) act as an inductor, when you break the connection, the coil(s) backfeeds and tries maintain the current flow...it's really nothing to worry about (and really nothing you can do about it)...Nolox is good, but that's the main reason why the contact goes bad...arcing pits it away

Sorry if I misunderstood, Noalox causes pitting? If so, is it better to just leave the arcing be than use Noalox on these contacts?

bummed?

arcing will happen on any high current make/break connection. as far as i know Robert didn't reinvent the laws of physics.

the arcing is only apparent in the Reo because we all have been talking about it for months here, and it is easy to see. most of the hooples in the tubesteak forums don't talk about it much, because it is hard to see arcing take place inside of a pipe bomb. so, yes, your tube mechs are probly sparking more.

Yup, bummed. Should I be happy? The consensus was that the new contacts will remove the use of Noalox and filing. Noalox is still needed to prevent arcing which may result in possible pitting. I'm sure you didn't KNOW that the new contacts will arc. I'm as big of a Reo fan as anyone else but it's pretty ridiculous how some people get defensive about anything negative regarding Rob's creations.

My 1 ohm coils arc infrequently, the .5 ohm dual coils arc heavily. I may cut a slot out of one of my old Chinese tube mechs to see the bottom button arc. Learn something new everyday :)

Just put a dab on your batt. On the good side no more filing :D
Any electrical contact or switch will arc I even put an antioxidant on my truck battery terminals. It keeps everything clean with maximum conductivity.

After I changed to the sub-ohm kit, I started having a really weird problem. The fire button would work, then not work AT ALL. I must have taken the little black box inside off 20 times today... twisted, untwisted the 510 pin, adjusted and readjusted the firing pin, over and over. I was almost ready to mail it back to Rob... when I decided to try pushing the firing pin thing up higher on the 510 connector pin. It was hard to get pliers in there, even super thin jeweler ones, so I used the very sharp tweezers I had laying around. When I went to push the flap up, I felt it push around the rim of the silicone cover for the pin.... and pop it out from the top. It wasn't firing, because the silicone got trapped under the 510 connector, so it only made intermittent contact!!!

Soon as I loosened that silicone from around the pin, it started firing just fine and consistently again. Just a heads up in case someone else has the same problem. When pushing it up the pin, a bit of silicone from the sleeve can get trapped inside the hole, and prevent firing completely. If I didn't have the super sharp tweezers that accidentally poked that silicone sleeve, this mod would be boxed up for Rob and waiting for the mailman right now. Such a small thing, such a big problem!!

yep. of course... it's all a matter of degree, and, more importantly, the downside
