Is there anyway I may already have the mechanical switch?
If I unscrew the top, the switch comes out.

Now I just take the old one out (since it slides out anyway) and insert the new one?

No soldering. That's only if you buy a tact switch to put in your existing switch. The mechanical switch is the whole thing - you just put it together and slide it in.

Anyone, know when the Protege will ship with mechanical switches as standard rather than tact switches.

I think Steve or Casey said on the next run they'll be standard, probably after the first of the year.
