I have the opposite story and I am just throwing it out there as a reminder to pay attention to the second post in this thread. My switch stuck 4 times the first day and once the next morning until I read Caseys warning that if you adaptor is too tight it will stick. I am now a little OCD about making sure the adaptor isn't too tight (I keep it loose enough to be able to wiggle the switch cover just a little bit). and it hasn't stuck since.

Also, will it be possible to buy the entire switch assembly for those of us who aren't sodderers?

We have thought about a mechanical switch guys ... The Problem is, getting it to fit within the space we have, and not have it poke out 1/2" or longer. We could put a mechanical button at the button, or make a cam and put it at the top, but that takes away from the advantage of the button right towards the top for easy thumb or index finger operation without adding quite a bit to the size.

With that said, we felt the best option would be a long track, high gram force rating, tact switch for the following reason:

1) Size
2) Being able to build add on features to the switch to make it look attractive
3) Cheap and easy to replace as needed

No doubt, mechanical switches are much *Sturdier* ... we just weren't able to find one to fit the specs we needed. BUT, that doesn't mean we aren't continuing to look.

We are now on a new batch of switches, so I'm hoping these are better than the last batch of 500.

Again, remember guys, this same switch is in the Prodigy and USBpass. It has been tested for well over 6 months in which I still have my original within my own Prodigy. It can take hundreds of thousands of presses, without voltage leaking at higher voltage, and without failing. It probably just came down to QC on this last batch!

We'll get you guys all taken care of quickly and reliability ...

Thanks for the feedback Steve. If this switch meets your requirements for reliability that's good enough for me. You can always get a batch of anything with a few more duds than usual.

I'll take smaller and more attractive anytime. I like cheap and easy too ;-)

You mentioned putting some spare switches up on the web site this weekend. I placed an order Friday night (Order 20885). I would love to get a spare switch added to it.

Can you get this added? What should I do - send Casey a ticket? Please let me know.

Thanks again,

No need Lotus ... Just added a note to your order to ship a free tact switch with your order :)

Thanks a ton Steve. I can see why you have so many loyal customers.

I'm a web programmer so it's been drilled into me - backup backup backup!

I even bought an extra adapter with my kit in case I had a problem or dropped it atty side down or something 8-o

I can relax now. ;-)
Load up a fresh cart of 555 and watch a little football.

LOLOLOL

I must admit ... I am always quite intrigued when I watch the show. Quite interesting if you say the least. I don't mind it as much as other shows the mrs decides to record (ie: reality shows like kardashians, girls next door, etc...)

I do love shows like Greys Anatomy, the new show Flash Forward, So You Think You Can Dance, etc.... Plus all my baseball, football, and bball games :D 99% of everything i watched is DVRed ... I don't know what i would do without DVR ...

What uses this design?

Looks and sounds like the way to go, but I'm sure Steve chose this switch for a reason.

Steve?

Out of respect for Steve's forum I'll PM you with the product as it is not a Puresmoker product. I don't want to advertise another company's product on a suppliers subforum.

Cashmere, i have not received response from my ticket #6006230. I was told to just send in the switch. I asked how to remove the switch and did as instructed and when it came out the derlin cracked at the edge. I've provided pictures in the last message.

You guys are stressing me out as i've not heard back since last night and need to know if i still have the ok to send in the switch for replacement. hehe

Hey Eclypse,

We're not in on the weekends, thus the reason the ticket wasn't answered until today. From time to time, I'll log into the ticket system over the weekend, but for the most part, from Friday after 5 until Monday at 10, we're taking our puresmoker weekend breaks. I replied to your ticket this morning, and you're all set.

Geez!
Count me in. Mine started sticking a few minutes ago. I grabbed my protege to put the battery on the charger and settle in with the passthrough, and boy was it hot. It melted the cart. The battery was very warm as well.

I'm glad I didn't leave it overnight and discharge the battery.

I'll shoot a trouble ticket.

I must say, that it really is time to implement some sort of light/visual clue for these things, because with the 510, I barely hear it when it's on, so it's very hard to tell when the switch is stuck.

I put this on another thread, but it has so far gone unnoticed so I am reposting here :)

My stick has not stuck yet...however, I purchased 2 Proteges. On #1 the button operates smoothly and quietly. On #2, the button clicks when pressed and again when released. Does anyone know if their button was clicking and then stuck? If Steve or Casey read this, should I just wait and see if it sticks or return it before it does? TIA!

Mine was smooth no clicks ever.

Honestly, this doesn't sound like a problem, but if it does start to stick, let us know. Each button does have a slightly different action just due to the alignment of the button on the switch. It could also be the button in the button housing clicking...
