I have a vv mod and a friend of mine has a mechanical mod(Megalodon).

Everytime I vape on his mod it seems stronger. More throat hit as well as more, if not the same, vapor. I decided to measure them all today to compare, and found his setup was actually producing lower wattage than mine. I was using vv mod with two AW IMR 18350s regulated at 5.3v with atty measuring 3ohm, which gives 9.36w. His setup was one AW IMR 18650 measuring at 3.5v with atty measureing 1.4 ohm, which is 8.75w. So his mechanical mod at lower watt is producing stronger overal hit than my vv mod. He only uses Joye atties and I have used several kinds including hybrid, cannon and others. His is always stronger at around the same wattage.

Why is this?
I'm starting to think it's got to do with mine being regulated and his being straight out of bat?

It could well be that the heat-up time on his 1.4 ohm atty is considerably shorter and only feels stronger because you are drawing in hotter vapor much sooner.

I'll bet that if you took a longer draw on your mod (thus giving your 3 ohm atty time to reach optimum temperature) you will find little difference between his and yours.

    You need to use the same resistance & voltage on your vv so that you are comparing apples to apples.
    At least to me, with the same juice;
    a 2ohm carto @ 4v (8watts) has more TH less flavor
    a 3ohm carto @ 4.9v (8watts) has more flavor less TH

    So IMO, LR vaping is different than HR vaping. Not better or worse, just different.

    It isn't the mod that is making the difference. It's the size of the coil used to produce the same wattage.

    Thank you for the responses.
    We were using the same liquid. So I know it wasn't the liquid.
    I guess it was hard to say which was necessarily better, but it was definately giving me stronger TH and being a TH guy I automatically thought it was performing better.
    So heat up time is actually shorter on LR atty than HR one. I never knew that.
    Next time I see him I'll try his atty on mine at the same voltage as his then I can probably compare if the devices make any difference.
