Hey guy's so I've been using this Melo 3 mini tank for a few days now and I'm still really confused on what the proper wattage I should be using for it is. Currently it has the stocked coil it came with in it. It's reading at .36 ohms and what I read said that coil should be used between 30w to 60w. But if I have it at 30 or above I get a lot of crackling and popping. Every now and again I can taste my juice. I'll feel small little bits of liquid hitting my tongue and it kinda sucks. I feel like I'm going through tons of juice at that wattage. Right now I have it set at 25.5 watts and it seems to be doing okay but is that too low??

Cool thanks guys. I just was using it at 30 and I felt like I've been burning through my juice. Now at 25.5 no popping or spit back.
You will probably use more juice in the Melo III with that coil than you would in a tank with a higher ohm coil. I run 2 different juices in the Melo with the .3 coil at 17 or 20W. The tank and battery run out about the same time. My other tanks with 1.8 ohm coils, running under 6W last much longer, but that is the difference between tootle and sub-ohm.

Set your power at the number that gives you the best flavor from your juice.

What is the PG/VG ratio of your juice? That can effect the popping/spitback in certain tanks meant to use juice that is either thicker or thinner than what you have in there.

That honestly sounds like a duddy coil to me, though. You may not enjoy vaping the .3ohm coils up at 50W, but they should be able to handle it without spitback. Not because it's rated like that by the company, but because I use those coils plenty up in that range with no issues. Definitely just set it where you need to as others have said, and if you're enjoying it at 25W there is no reason to toss it or crank up the power. Something just sounds fishy to me.

My juice is 70/30 VG PG. Usually I do 50/50 but I thought i give this a go for a bit .

That sounds fine to me, that's the blend I used too. Only other thing I would suggest is to prime your new coils with a bit of juice. A drop or two on the cotton that shows through the coil. Then fill your tank and let it sit for 5 min or so to let it absorb the juice before using it the first time.

It sounds to me like you solved your problem by just turning down the wattage.

Yeah, 70/30 shouldn't be a problem. Definitely make sure you prime the coil.

Next time you have a new one, I might take it up over 25W just to see if it also pops, but that doesn't mean you have to vape it there. I honestly find the Melo/iJust coils to usually have less spitback than some others, normally.

Was it popping right from the start or did it happen after using it for a bit?

It was basically from the start. This was a brand new tank that my none vaping friend gave to me full of juice. Who knows if he primed it at all tbh.

Mine sometimes pops just to get my attention.

Seriously, it does help to start a new coil lower than it needs to be and gradually work up the power until you hit the sweet spot for what you are vaping. If you are too low, nothing happens, but if you start too high, you can burn it up or at least shorten its lifespan.

Yeah, as above, especially if your friend didn't prime it and you went right for a reasonably high wattage, you may have unintentionally exacerbated the problem. Once the [cotton] wick gets even singed, it will start to go downhill, and that might include spitback and popping.

But the popping will likely to continue to happen after the tank/coil sits for a while, overnight, for example, even on a good coil that you know normally doesn't spitback much etc.... but it should settle down. It's just the nature of the beast.

As for new coils, you seem to know to prime, and as @cats5365 said, with factory coils I do start very low and go up gradually to break it in. I usually start down at 10-15W even for a very low res. coil and just slowly crank up (5-8W increments) to let it heat up and settle. Normally, this works very well for me. It also is an easy way to zero in quickly on what wattage you are comfortable vaping a given coil at, if you don't know offhand.

Thank you guys. I will keep everything y'all said in mind when I switch out the coil.
