I've not had any problems with leaks or dry hits with the merlin.
I wicked it like I would any tank, the wick goes down past the holes touching them, into the juice cups on the base, nothing special other than I use rayon.
The merlin is the only tank I use, on a dna200 mod in power mode.
I mainly use drippers or bf atty's on my squonkers, the aeronaut is my favorite.
I have 2 strands of 3mm silica in there now with a very spaced 0.44Ω coil, and it is wicking like a champ. I can suck a full tank down in like 4-5 hours without meaning to.

The link I posted was correct but it said cellucotton but it's rayon. o_O

CelluCotton Beauty Coil 3lbs.
It's the same as the above rayon.
Yeah this looks like what Mactavish posted. I have an Amazon account so it took 10 seconds to order it. Appreciate the quick replies. Begun researching rayon wicking tips.

There's a huge thread about rayon here somewhat but I can't find it now. It would take days to read it all anyway.

Listen and feel for a light crunch when wicking. Rayon does not expand when wet like cotton, so you'll wick a little tighter...

That's the one thing I've researched so far. And trim the tails because you're packing the coils tighter.

I put a notch coil back in one of my Merlins, I just love how the notch will take the whole strand of Rayon. A quick trim and tuck of the tails and you are good to go.

Running at 50W/450F it is a very flavorful vape! :vapor:

Other then being careful not to break the leads, or cut them by tightening the screws too tight, both of which I did to my first two installs, the SS Notch is really good. I still have the first one in my Merlin, well it was the 3rd one, but first I didn't break. I'd have to say these are the longest lasting coils I've ever used. Beefy enough to keep dry burning and rewicking many times. Not sure why some don't like them.

Excellent coils IMHO as well.

I see there are some notched versions for the Ultimo that I have to get. No legs on those ones they make contact to the top and bottom of the coil head. Then can be easily taken out and rewicked or dry burned.

Wow glad I didn't pitch mine! I will try the notch coil next time. People were saying they didn't last and they gunked up fast. I have only built mine 3 times. The first time I cut the tails a little shorter then the bottom of the cup. It leaked all over me.The last 2 times I stuffed the cotton all the way to the bottom and it has wicked perfectly. 80vg .9 ss at 17 watts.:)

Man that's scary I was just bout to ask where you have been?lol
How did they break ?when you were tightening the grubs?
It was like they both got shorted and the short was in the coil. The leads were OK. Not sure what happened. Hoping the ones that came with them will work.

I bought some notch coils from FT and tried 2 and they both broke. Not sure what i did wrong but I will try them again after trying the ones that came with my Merlins.
I was careful when I used the notch coil. Many people were saying the leads broke easily. If you center the leads in the middle of the grub screws, it helps. If they get moved to the top or bottom of the screw, the threads will pinch the wire against the metal post and cut the leads. If the leads are centered then the flat part of the screws will just smash the wire without cutting them.
