I wouldn't want to use anything that can be used for auto repair... The smell will never go away. I also wouldn't want my liquids to have contact with it also. The fish tank silicon dries odorless and tasteless.Actually If you are going to try to glue them in. I would use RTV Silicone. It is heat, gas, oil, etc resistant.
I have used RTV Silicone when fixing engines, and carburetors. I would just coat the bottom of the O ring in RTV silicone, and then lightly set it where it is supposed to go. Take whatever screws over the O ring and lightly hand tighten it, Very lightly. Then take it apart and let it dry. This will allow the silicone to act as a cushion and keep the O ring up. So that when you screw the parts down it will allow the rubber to make a tighter seal.
My opinion on the included O rings is that they are very thin. I think all of them would benefit from being a little thicker.
