Try using a little dish soap and hot water in a small bowl. Alcohol works too. Mine is the same as when I got it.
I just tried dropping a little PG on it, but didn't help much. Now it's stiff in some spots then moves freely in others. Lol. The water probably just needs to evaporate or something. If not I'll think of a food grade lube to put on it. Like VG, or something like it.

Anyway Just put the new titanium coil in and I am still breaking it in. For now it seems to work pretty good. I noticed in TC mode the tank feels like it is getting hotter than any other coil I've had on there. So I guess I'll have to dial it back a little.

I suggest trying to clean it first water alone does not really remove eliquids very well. Soak it in soapy water ,rinse ,and let it dry.

Try spraying it with canned air. Might help get the rest of the water out. I haven't had this problem.

My first ever attempt to build a coil and I picked the Merlin to try on. Can any of you experts please have a look and tell me if I am on the right path…I watched some videos and tried to follow them. Im a little concerned that I have used too little cotton…basically i cut a strip of KGD about 4mm wide and stripped the top and bottom layers before using what was left. Any tips Or am I good to go?

This is 30AWG Kanthal and the reading Im getting is 1.84 ohms or so.

Looks good. For kanthal you can compress the coils a little bit more for more vape and heat if desired. The wick looks fine, I use less than that with silica and it still works.

I'd say the cotton looks fine. When you wet it down it should reach the bottom of those juice holes well. You don't want them all compressed in blocking the holes, but they should be right behind them (you can help it along with a little tuck and push through the holes to if you have to).

Having said that, I put in a new coil and wick yesterday. I had a little strip of cotton left over from a sheet and figured eh, it will be enough. By morning I discovered it wasn't after leaking about half the tank. Fortunately it didn't spend the night on top of a mod. Rewicked with a decent amount of cotton such as you have, and all is well.

I am strictly mtl and use a 70VG juice….prefer a cooler vape and usually stay between 8-12 watts.

The merlin manual says not to block the holes with the cotton but Ive seen many folks on youtube who don't follow this…i tried the merlin way but I hope this is not going to lead to the tank flooding
It shouldnt with mtl. Using that high of a vg mix it shouldnt hurt it. The only time I flooded it was high pg and very restricted air flow. Puts more pressure/suction on the juice holes because it cant get enough air. But that was my problem, shouldn't happen with your build.

It's called TRIAL & ERROR. You have to start somewhere, and see how it works for you. Seems you already have a multitude of good opinions here already. I'll add mine.

I've only used rayon in my 3 Merlins, after NOT blocking the juice holes, first time, and getting a ton of leaking, I then pushed the wicking in, and let it sit against the holes, just like most other premade coils look. Have not had a leak or 75% VG feed issue since. Good luck and enjoy!
