I tried cotton and it's OK, good flavor, but a PIA. Needs to be changed often, burns to easily.

I just got some 1mm silica here: https://www.thehouseofvapor.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Bulk-Wick Although they are currently out of stock. From my experience all silica is not the same. I had some other 1mm silica that no matter what I did with it it would fall apart too easily. The 1mm silica above is much easier to work with.

In my RM2 I have a micro coil wrapped on the 1.5mm wire gizmo. I slightly separated the coils, then I use a beading needle and thread a doubled piece of silica, cut it to size and it's good to go. The beading needle works like wire and as many have said you can use dental floss. I have found if I wet the silica slightly with my mouth, the beading needle doesn't cut the wire and it slides into the coil better.

has anyone tried pva glue ..? once upon a time i used to do a lot of carp fishing and i would buy multistrand Dacron type line that splits into smaller strands in the water so fish cant see or feel it.... and to stop it tangling on the cast i would buy a pva water soluble glue in the carping section.. might be worth a shot, come to think of it you'd most probably find some nice threaders there aswell (boillie threaders)

Went to the B&M today to get some 1mm ekowool, and silica for my 1/16" dia. coils to try for the heck of it. They didn't have any. all they had that was close was .6mm silica, so I got a little of that. Doubled that over then again for four strands and got it thru the coil. Doesn't seem to be overly tight and try it tomorrow to see how it works, or I could pull one strand out. The ekowool, I'll have to order on-line to try out. But for now see how the silica works out.

Thank you for this OP. The main reason I stick with cotton is because I like the ease of being able to pull the old cotton out & put new cotton in without building a new coil. With silica I always had to build a new coil.

I tried out your technique for wicking with the silica & it worked so awesomely I have rewicked all my RDAs with silica.

I do like cotton sometimes but I don't like it as much as silica.

As Boatman said I can get 1mm hollow ekowool through a 1/16", 1.5mm, or .055" ID coil.

Question - I just got some 1mm hollow ekowool in the mail, but I can't for the life of me thread it through my 1/16 coil. I tried teflon tape, and it was still too get to go through the coil! What am I missing here?

I'd like to use Ekowool too. My question is does the thread need to touch the wire? If it's too thin will I get bad wicking and dry hits? Should I just push it together (after it's in the coil) so it gets thicker?

I heard to use a small piece of stainless steel mesh to wrap the end. But I guess any piece of adhesive tape would work. So far I had problems to get wicking right.

Is there even and advantage of using ekowool for wicking, if you need to put the strands near the wickholes like the Kayfun? Does the woven structure help with capillary action or would a frayed end at the wick holes actually be better?

    Thanks.
