Here's what's working for me, I make a micro coil with 28ga. 7-8 wraps 1/16 tight and I take 1mm eckowool and put blue painters tape on the tip and cut it like a point to start it, fits perfect. I can get 4 to 5 hits before I have to squeeze for more juice. I've been running this for 2 weeks and love it!!! Of course I take the tape off. :)

I've got some 1mm ekowool I got in a trade that I never use so I may try this. Do you boil your ekowool? I always get a funky taste. I've tried torching it and that didn't help much. Haven't tried boiling it yet though.

Wow, I've been going about a month before changing my micro coils. I'm definitely seeing some advantages to silica micro coils vs. cotton. I can't say I'm noticing a flavor difference. The magic is in the coil. The only negative would be having to buy silica. I've read that some people are experiencing side effects from cotton. I myself have had some weird things happening, so I'm trying to rule that out.

Side effects such as? Just curious, don't feel like googling lol

Well I made this ugly coil. Wow it seems to have more flavor than my micro and the 1.1 ohms seems to be hitting harder too.

Do you boil, or otherwise treat your silica before you use it? I ask because I tried torching it, and good grief, all the little pieces that came off of it, so I'm assuming you don't torch it before use.

I myself dont torch or boil. Some do. I know that torching will stiffen it.

For the really fat silica braided wick (5mm i measured) i torch it. But the smaller 2mm stuff that you double over and pull thru a coil i don't. I reason that since you typically pulse burn the coil anyway that will kill anything on it, if my toxic juice doesn't!

And despite seeing it in numerous videos - i use a decent set of wire cutters to trim the ends rather than nail clippers.

As I mentioned I don't try to have coils touching so the juice can seep a little between the coils I find I get more flavor and vapor production as the juice gets between each wrap. I squeeze the coils together when I use cotton.

Here are some pics of my coil with xc132 6 wraps 30g wire directly around the xc after slipping out my paperclip, comes out to about 1.2 ohms. Notice the space between coil wraps. I do this on purpose so it catches more juice between coils. Not as pretty as the squeezed together microcoils we all see pictures of. I do that with cotton wick. You'll notice how undamaged the coil is and the xc is not too burnt considering I have heavily vaped this setup for almost a month now, hassle free! No rewicking, no recoiling, just dry burn every couple of days!! coil2.jpg

Ah, see this thread has been revived. Just an update - I now use dental floss to pull the silica through. Found the wire tends to break the silica some times. Unbelievable how strong dental floss is.

This is great! I have some silica I got with something else awhile ago, but never tried it because I couldn't figure out how to get it thru the coil (not that I thought hard about it, though). I'm going to have to give this a try, now. And dental floss is amazing for all the things it can be used for. When my kids were in their punk stage, they used dental floss for sewing on all their patches onto their leather jackets.

Where do you get your 1mm eckowool, e-bay?
