Received my BRD Squonker from Sculpteo . . . . sans the buttons . . . *sigh*

I had ordered the BRD Squonk,,, twice and both times Sculpteo canceled the order. They said the size of something was not right. I PM'ed to @BlueridgeDog,, who promptly made changes on the design. But I had already ordered the one from Shapeways, and I was not gonna order from them again until the refunds made it back into my account. Funny thing about Sculpteo was that each time I ordered the item the price went up! Checked the price since BRD made the changes and it went up again. Really would like to hear about how the Sculpteo one turns out. I will post my findings on the Shapeways one, as it is supposed to ship tomorrow. With as slow as the parts co-op thing is moving who knows when mine will all come together!

Shapeways BRD squonk shipped was $72.09.

Do I need to put then in a separate file? I can print some in ABS and mail them to you so you can test it out. It has never been built or seen by me!

Let me see how quickly Sculpteo responds, but I do appreciate the offer.

Probably would be best to show them more prominently in the render, I can see how they might be overlooked by someone who's never used the term "squonk."

It is a beast. I printed in Alumide because I kind of like the gray and have pretty good luck with just a clear coat. It is very sturdy, you could get away with thinner walls. It is quite wide, also, so I'm wondering how comfortable the single handed squonking will be. It'll probably grow on me as I use it.

That battery from Trossen electronics slid into the slot nicely, though I may have to snip off the balance connector to get it to snap together.

Well, Sculpteo closed the ticket to email, and hasn't responded to me. I've sent them the blue print showing the buttons, a render showing the buttons, etc., but they've gone silent for a week. Opened another ticket, we'll see . . .

Question about balance charger wiring. Thanks to @Steamer861 I got a BRD box and genace 1300mah battery.

On the balance port it's 1 red with 3 black. I metered it and it's actually 1 positive and 3 ground. The other battery in the picture is just the opposite, 1 black ground and 3 red positive. Metered it out and it's correct. So these 2 batteries have opposite wired balance ports.

If I'm understanding the dna200 board, it wants 1 ground and 3 positives.... The genace (which was supposed to go in this box) is wired exactly opposite.

What do I do?

@BlueridgeDog Squonker mod from shapeways,,

Glad to see one...I don't have one and I only think there are three prints out there. Curious to now how the bottle side works as for getting it on and off to change it out.

Yea...it is big, but with the chip, battery and bottle side by side...

I am goofing off with one that drops the atomizer down, but I have held off until I see if the opening and accessing will work.

I don't think its really too big! In fact, with the way the prints come out, a little more room for that size battery would be great. In my hand, wider (thicker) would not be a problem, which would also give way for more options for battery choice. Yes its tight, so tight it will need a ribbon to get the battery out! I put it in and prayed while I pulled on the wirring to get it back out!

The bottle side is a breeze to get off, the board side,, not so much. The bottle side flexes very well for removal, the board side is much, less flexible, making the battery compartment less flexible also, hence the perceived need for ribbon for removal, (it binds at the top and bottom of the battery). But, I'll make it a keeper. :banana:

All in all,,,, Thanks You @BlueridgeDog for putting this design out there for us to use!:thumb:

Yep, bottle side is easy,, board side is a :-x to get off. :lol: Not impossible, but it is a challenge.

I never envisioned someone popping it on and off...sort of a one time thing. Yea...I would have tested it too, but once wired and working it is in to stay (there should be no juice in that side requiring maintenance).

I have been working on going without hardware for the enclosure...TruckerMSA and I have been kicking this one back and forth for months and I am now at the fifth printing:

That one is a snap lock...but the male/female part could be swapped. The cover has the male portion as it is too thin for the female snap side, but it could be thickened. Most of the recent printing, both ABS and commercial has been getting the radius of the snap closer down to the smallest effective size 3mm R is amazing and strong, but too big, 1mm R is not effective when printed in ABS, but is close in laser. In general this one has been thinned to make it an inexpensive print. Once the bugs are finally gone, it will be thinned some more with relief holes in the sled portion.

Like the bottle door on the squonk, for removal you squeeze the door to disconnect it,,, in-ward.

This one looks like it will be a "pry apart" type of unit. OR,, I'm all confused and should just keep quiet and watch the really smart people here do miracles. :thumb:

If you can't get an answer Here. Maybe try asking in the Evolv forum?

You would hope that there was some kind of uniformity within the industry about the wiring on the balance connector.

Guess it's going to be prudent to do a physical check any time you replace a battery.

ETA,,, Reading over on the early adopters forum,, there is conformity with the wiring.
@turbocad6 ,, for the explanation!

Like I said,, I should sit quietly and watch the smarter people do the magic!

The wiring is right, just the color of the wires is wrong. The plug only fits one way and they're wired correctly. If there's only one red wire, the one farthest away is the ground. If there's only one black wire, it's the ground.

Well, Sculpteo closed the ticket to email, and hasn't responded to me. I've sent them the blue print showing the buttons, a render showing the buttons, etc., but they've gone silent for a week. Opened another ticket, we'll see . . .

You mean they just refuse to address your inquires? Are you kidding me? Wow, that would really tick me off and I wouldn't let that go without making a lot of noise and spreading the word. I'd never do business with them again if that's the way they treat customers. If they have a facebook page I go to it and post a message about it, I'd take screen shots of the ignored ticket they close and save any emails or other info, turn them to pics, black out or blur your personal info and post them on FB, twitter and any other social media they use. Crappy customer service is one thing that drives me pushes my buttons. The jobs I had where I had to engage the public, I treated even angry, unreasonable customers with respect. I always looked at it that I would not allow an angry customer change my demeanor, 99% of the time they were angry because in their eyes they had been wronged and it was my responsibility to make it right.

Thanks. The bottle side is made to come off easy, but not util you want it to. The chip side should be REALLY hard to get off.

And most mods seem small to me, I don't clap at events for fear of leaving the ground.

LoL, almost coated my keyboard with coffee when I read that, that was good. :lol:
