I really need to ground the motor on my 3 phase mill, I get shocked to all hell every time I happen to be touching the mill and also touch anything metal around it. I tell yeah it really keeps me on my toes as to exactly where my hands are at all times though :)

Have you tried those heavy 9mil rubber gloves? They might be enough to keep you from getting zapped. I use the 5mil all the time in the shop, keeps your hands clean and I can even pick up a sewing needle with them on.

Just a reminder, folks who build and resell mods (if any profit at all is involved) are considered "Suppliers" by ECF, and subjected to different rules. For example, "Suppliers" are not allowed to participate in Co-ops.

;) Just making sure everyone is informed.....................

Good points, and that will drive your price. The way I see it though, is that he's buying a product that you are producing, regardless of whether he's paying for the whole mod as complete or your services to build from parts he bought...you're still selling him something...therefore a business. I think my experiences might be right in line with what you are talking about. For me, airbrushing is also a hobby, but it's a hobby that's worth my time, effort, and technique. The number of people that jumped on them through Twitter was amazing, but what was equally amazing was the number of people that thought it should cost the same or less as a stock controller. Everyone thought they were great until they realized that I wasn't giving them away. LOL! EIther way, each one took 30 hours from start to finish, plus the cost of buying the pieces, and shipping to purchaser...those that understood it and went with them are very happy, those that understood it and elected not to were still appreciative of the work and time involved, those that didn't get it thought I was gouging and disrespectful.

Well IF I do it, it will be just a hobby and once in a while for just this guy and only to as a way to help pay for my vape gear and keep me from smoking. No way I'm going into business, posting about them on a website like facebook, twitter or such. I'm enjoying retirement, the thought of going into business, no way. I love being able to spend time with my grandkids and family, they always come first. Besides, in three months I'll move to another hobby, I always do LoL.

Thanks Mike, I don't want to get in trouble with the forum, duly noted. The more I think about it the less I want to, guess I was just taken by surprise when this guy was so wowed by my mod and asked me if I would build him one, it sure did make me feel good to think he was impressed!

Yeah, I get that! It does puff your chest out a bit when a Store Owner wants YOUR creation. Had it happen a few times. Even considered making up a bunch for my local B&M. Changed my mind though, when money gets involved it has a way of polluting a good passion. I do what I do out of passion, for the fun and satisfaction of it. I decided that I dont want money to dictate what/when/how I do what I do........

Plus, just like Evlsmrk alluded to, if I start to think about my time as money, Modding is soooooo the wrong business to be in.

Good point SW. Nothing wrong with looking at it that way, my only concern was making sure you are being compensated adequately for what your time and expertise is worth. Other than that, have fun and run with it. If it's not fun...it's just another form of work.

And thank you for the comments on the controllers. They were fun to work on.

I dont think it has anything to do with profit or not. Before Xobeloot was forced to become a supplier he offered to send someone some of his NET monkey poo if they would just pay shipping. Wham bam no thank you ma'am and he was suspended and could only come back as a supplier.

This really amounts to false advertising. If 2 18650s are being used then it is only a 133 watt Mod, NOT 200. It might be driven by a DNA200 but it is NOT a 200w Mod.

ETA: Ooooops, it doesnt say Evolv anywhere so I cant say 133w, but nonetheless the math doesnt support 200w from 2x 18650s.

dj was building/painting mods for people at a very low (almost non-existent) margin.

Well, then it depends on the resistance of the coil. It is possible (for a very short time before the battery drains too low) if you get into sub-ohm world.

What is NET monkey poo? Sorry...have to ask. Is it a reference to Naturally Extracted Tobacco?

Yes. Xobeloot was our resident monkey. He called his NET his monkey poo. Uncle Sam sent him to Germany so he is not supplying now and he has a new monkey in the family so rarely gets online now. Kinda miss the simian.
