Just did a search on this unit...is this NOT a lavatube people? Sure looks like mine!

They are all the same. Volcanoe (who sells the LavaTube) has exclusive rights to the name "LavaTube." That means no other company can sell the same mod under that name.

That being said, that doesn't mean other companies can't sell it. They just can't use that name. So you have all these other names that come from other companies, and countries. Some Canadian companies that sell it in black call it the Knightrider (thats what I have). And others call it all those other names, like in the OP's post.

What you have is a Chinese made VV mod that third party companies are selling under different names. The LavaTube name is the most popular because Volcanoe was one of the first (if not the first...not really certain) to sell it under that name in the U.S.

I personally went through a Canadian dealer because I wanted it in all black, and without a third company logo printed on it.

Yep, Sad Society is correct. Volcano was actually the idea creator of this vv tube mod. It was basically announced around I believe in May of last year. It came up in one of their video chats. They then began to work with L-rider to put the idea into fruition. This also means that volcano may have more leverage in any changes, more than cosmetic down the road if they so choose too. Of course don't quote me on that part, but it makes sense.

I personally went with Volcano, for many reasons. I love my LavaTubes. :)

First I've heard of this. I suppose they could have made a deal with the company.. L-Rider said sure we'll make em to your specs but we retain the rights to mass produce and resell them.

I dunno.. could have happened like that I suppose but that sounds Really Stupid for Valcoanecigs to do. As popular as this thing is, if Volcano really did have a patent design and prototype to patent, they could be the sole distributor of the LavaTube and made all the extra money they are missing out on.

They could have went with a US company to refine and produce the prototype to get a patent, then had L-Rider produce them to specs. That way L-Rider could not mass produce them for other companies and Volcanoecigs would be sitting pretty.

I'd love to know all the ins and outs of this and Volcanoecigs choice to go the route they did. Must have had a really good reason to give up all that cash.
