This contest theme said holidays, so I'm including NYE here. A very fond memory was every NYE with my dad listening to Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, watching the ball drop, and of then in later years, watching .... Clark for so many years!! Sure do miss him doing the NYE countdown. I just don't enjoy the music shows anymore for the most part.

Battery is dying, and I'm gonna probably be going back to where I live today with my SIL. I don't have access to the computer very often there, once or twice a week maybe. I've been at my son's the last 4 days. I will get on when I can, but it's been great to play and yak with y'all!

Dave, I LOVED that video from a year without a santa claus. That's another one I try to watch every year and want to get on video.

When I was in high school, I worked in a retirement community, as a waitress, I remember working one Thanksgiving day. It was really slow because most people were with family. But a few people came in for lunch or dinner, I had a great time because these people were like my extended family. I will always remember getting help with my geometry homework from a retired astrophysicist ♥♥♥

I love Christmas light soooooooooooo much!! Every year for a long time we used to go to BLORA (a military run park here) cuz they have a huge display of lights that move and do things. You can drive through it or take a horse and buggy. I have always wanted to do the horse and buggy, but haven't been able to convince anyone else. One year I did get to RIDE through it instead of being the driver and that was great. Haven't been in a number of years, cuz I can't get anyone to go with me anymore. They get tired of seeing them....me....never!! Still trying to convince someone to drive with me about an hour away to one that is supposed to be way better! I'm still a 3 year old at heart!

Jup I'm still here. Supposed to go back tonite, but I was supposed to go back last night for sure too, so we'll see. Last Thursday I came over just to do laundry! hehehe It's been one day at a time since.

Did you have a chance to watch this?? You're never too old to enjoy the Christmas lights...

One of these years I want to WALK through the neighborhood so I can hear all of the different music coming from the houses, and to see it all up close!! There are always kids selling Hot Chocolate, too...

I have lived in this area all of my adult life... and for as long as I can remember, this one little secluded part of town just about a mile or so South of here (called 'Sleepy Hollow') has put on the most incredible display of Christmas lights and decorations that I'm sure is one of the best around anywhere!! I think the City puts up the lights in the trees so they are all uniform, and picks up some of the cost for the electric bill, too...

There are only a couple of streets leading in or out of there, and during the Holiday Season, the police block off all but 2 of them to keep the traffic flow going in a certain direction... I never get tired of seeing it, and thank the people who live there for putting up with the inconvenience each year so that the rest of us can enjoy it!! View attachment 391150

It really needs to be seen in person, but this guy did a pretty good job of capturing it on video...

The decorations are usually kept up thru New Year's Eve, and one night I was coming home kinda late from somewhere that took me right past the entrance to the neighborhood, so I decided to swing by and see them while I still had a chance. Without the steady stream of cars leading the way, I got hopelessly lost... but I really didn't mind because it is just such a magical place!!

I had a tape of Christmas Music playing in my car stereo, and just kept driving around until I found my way out...

Christmas through New Year's was also the time when my mom would break out the candle carousels. We had two or three of them.... only one had the chimes, if I recall.

I had one of these too and it always fascinated me. I had a large German wooden one with 3 tiers that had fairy tale characters on it that I dearly loved. I was sure when I moved from AK that it was packed but it has never shown up here. I also have several of the German candle arches. Last year I had the guys take it from candle power into electric with the little flickery candle bulbs. They said bad stuff at me over it but may see if I can get them to convert the others too.

I have one of these too... It is the tree that I have used the past few years. When I bought this house, I inherited a 12 foot artificial tree that is pre-lit. It is in my basement in 2 huge boxes and I would say that each box weighs over 100 lbs because I can't lift them. I tried giving it to the original owners since their new house has cathedral ceilings and I have tried giving it to hospitals and churches and so far, it is still in my basement. I don't want a penny for it but they have to be the ones to haul it away.



Redd... I listen to all sorts of music, very little I don't like.

SK...I also love the music history you always bring. I may not comment on them but I read and enjoy every one. Thank you for them.

Bri......Juneau was interesting. There were times we had a lot of snow but generally the temps didn't get real cold. It would have been better if it did. It got to about 20 at night then warmed in the day melting the snow that would then freeze at night and then melt and then freeze... Juneau is in Southeast AK and is actually a temperate rainforest so we got a lot of rain but actually the winters were always worse in the area of PA I lived and even here than in Juneau and Southeast. I am at about the 3000 ft level and can go 30 miles in either direction and be at one of the major ski resorts in the state. I don't live on a state maintained road and last winter there were a couple of times that it was 2 weeks before we could get off the hill. We could see the highway all clear below but couldn't get there from here.

SK for some reason I'm still seeing only black boxes. They are the size they should be for a video or photo, but just solid black. Grrrrr The ornament photo count posted came through, as did the barn/restaurant one, but that's it. So everyone knows, that's why I'm not liking much today, can't see what the things are. But I know I'm missing some good ones of Charlie Brown, Frosty etc from the descriptions.


ETA: fooey!! forgot to plug the laptop in last night....grrrrr so gonna go do that and will be back later.

This has got to be my all-time fave in my collection of Christmas music!!!

A friend of mine had it way back when, and I looked all over trying to find it. Then one year, my b/f at the time actually found a brand new vinyl copy for me, which has since been transferred to disc

It would be impossible for me to choose just one song, so I am posting the whole album here... Enjoy!!

Phil Spector was such a genius, with his 'wall of sound' on the productions he did... and it's really a shame about what happened to him with the murder trial and all. It was so sad to see him on TV during that time... but his music lives on, and brings back Happy Memories!!

I do miss cooking a huge Thanksgiving dinner. Whether we had a lot or a little coming, I would start 2 days ahead of time doing prep work, cookin cornbread, choppin stuff etc. The menu was a total carb fest and went something like this

Biggest turkey I could find
Yam casserole
Smashed taters
tater salad
mac and cheese
green bean casserole
cranberry sauce (the kind in the can) one time tried a cranberry orange relish that just didn't come out right
cornbread/white bread mix stuffing (we call it stuffin' but we don't stuff it in the bird)
Rolls
Pies (other folks brought em or we bought em. I love to cook but never baked much) My son always wanted a pecan pie with candles for his bday whether it fell on Thanksgiving or not
Seems like I'm missin sumpthin, but that gives you an idea

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time with my grandmother at her house. There were 3 of us kids then (with 2 more to come later), but I was always her favorite , and I loved her so much. Every Christmas, we'd have a large, real tree in a corner of the living room near the fireplace. The tree always came from the huge field across from the house, where they sold them each year. Shopping for a tree there was always so great. I loved the smells and the festivity of it all. They also sold mistletoe and real wreaths. In my grandmother's sewing room, I had a fake tree she got me that was about 2 to 2.5 feet tall, much like this one...

I had small wrapped boxes for underneath (smaller than shown above), and decorations for it like some shown here, but nothing too big for the tree. Everything was miniaturized and proportional. I can't remember for sure, but I think I had miniature lights, too. There were some small balls like above, and the tiny stringed silver balls you see draped, but others were something like these...

Christmas has always been my favorite Holiday. I'll share some of my grandmother's favorite Christmas music next, and therefore, they have always been my favorites as well.
