Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul and Mary

I volunteered at our local nursing home for years. Noel Stookey did a benefit concert for the nursing home at the local high school, and we brought all the residents who were able to come. They were so excited to go to a concert. When Noel sang Puff the Magic Dragon, they all sang along with him. So many of them thought that was the highlight of their whole lives.

I can never hear that song without picturing the happiness in their faces.

Kind of embarrassing but I fell headlong in love with this guy when I was nine years old
I remember crying one night because my mom made me go to bed before his television show was over

My parents bought me this exact album for my ninth birthday and I memorized every single song on there.

I still have it in perfect condition ...
that makes this album 45 years old!!!

Good song! Yes...I knew this contest would make us all give away our ages.... My Mom LOVED him. Remember his show on TV? It was on for a little while...

#1. A couple of my Dad's favorites, and my favorites as well. Listed to this a lot as a kid and still do.

Oh yes....Johnny is awesome! The newer song he did called "Hurt" to me is so very powerful. So is the video. I recall his daughter saying she didn't like the song because it sounded like he was saying goodbye. He replied "I am". He passed a few weeks later. Incredible artist. Another of my faves by him is "Ira Hayes"...;)

This song always reminds me of when my ex-husband (high school sweetheart) and I were having serious marital problems. We ended up getting divorced after 31 years of marriage and 7 children. I still tear up when I hear it (like right now ). For some odd reason I always preferred his version over Elvis' even though I'm a huge Elvis fan.

Great powerful tune. I like Willie's version better myself...;) It seems more raw, simple and heartfelt to me than Elvis'. Although I do like Elvis too!

Good one! :):toast:

IDK what it is about all of these people with their Reo's and the popularity of bottom feeders in general... I have a beautiful wood mod that I won, but I never could quite get the hang of it... :?:

And every time I see someone use the words 'squonk' or 'squonking', it makes me think of this song... LOL!!

(this was from the 1st LP that Genesis did without Peter Gabriel, and the last one of their's I ever bought... I got to see them once when they were all together, and have followed PG's solo career, too!!)

Here is one that I still listen to today..I think about it a lot...I can't believe how long ago it was and yet still has meaning today...lol...

Great tune! I Actually was listening to Slade's "Come on Feel the Noise" a little while ago thinking about Quiet Riot!! I still like Quiet Riot's version better... ;) There's a station called "Hair Nation" on Sirius radio. They play the hits of the 80's, plus the hair- bands that didn't quite make it back then. Man, I'm surprised just how GOOD they sound! Never noticed them much then...

This was the one one for my wife when we met in 1991. Love that lady.

Oh Yea!

Jeff Healey is phenomenal! Excellent tune. You'd never guess he's blind by the way he plays. VERY nice. Very powerful.

My ex-husband and I stayed up all night listening to this song over and over trying to decipher all the words. We got most of them. :) I still think of that whenever I hear it.

Good one! Yea, I know....with all the reverb on his voice it's hard to tell! I think singers do that intentionally in case they forget the words.

Growing up in the 70's, my friends and I all had crushes on Olivia Newton-John. One of my friends discovered that his parents were hoarding presents in the trunk of their car and we snuck out to see what he could expect under the tree. We were all jealous to learn that he had Olivia's album "Totally Hot" was one of those presents.
