I'm not big on top-off steeping either but it's actually more that I have to use water to thin my VG and I don't want that evaporating off... I have to say, I was surprised at the difference in my vape quality though. I did it reluctantly (and on the advice of MikeP's guru suggestions as far as keeping temps lower-- and it does) but I'm actually quite pleased with how much more easily it vapes, and not dealing with extraordinarily gloopy juices is nice, but the flavor also seems improved (which makes no sense to me, but eh, it doesn't have to).

I don't care for maltol in my vape, personally. I think I'm using sucralose, which I'm fine with, I understand how it works, my body is okay with it so far (I drink a LOT of diet pepsi anyway, and the quantities I add to my vape are minute) but I think it works well as a sweetener that just Does That. Really, really potent though, I'm not usually using more than a drop or two in my vape (I usually mix up 55 ml flavor bottles) and I'm guessing I like it as I'm already accustomed to that sweetener, I think it's FA, it's called Super Sweet and that is exactly what it is. I find it leaves the rest of my flavoring pretty undisturbed, just kicks it up a notch...

Super Sweet is actually Capella but you're right, it's aptly named lol ... roughly double the strength of normal sweetener like TFA.

I mix Max VG so I usually don't need much, if any, sweetener. I also use a little distilled water in my mixes, not much just enough to thin it slightly.

I added 5 drops of Capella Marshmallow to 10ml of Hangsen Flue Cured DIY last night for a test batch. Hoping to get a little touch of sweet and more thickness and "mouth feel" from my tobaccos.

I'll repeat...Marshmallow = Liquid Magic

.5 - 3%

It really is, and I so almost didn't get it, except I kept reading on here how great it is. It so is. It's got this lovely balanced sweetness/flavor to it that I just can't isolate as a taste I've had before, but it's So Good.... and I hate marshmallows, unless they're charred and burning on the end of a stick (it doesn't taste like THAT, either). Coconut and marshmallow are my go to flavors to just improve something, regardless of what it is (not always together, but sometimes together). I love a hint of coconut in almost anything (except citrus) if it's not overpowering, but marshmallow is Just Magic. I'm also a cotton candy fan, but that seems to go better with candy-like flavors, to me, or alcohol flavors.

DIY is so much fun!!!! Maybe one day I can be a brewmaster, LOL. At some point, I am going to want a job that is a little less fraught with tragedy and well, just a LOT of intense interactions. Still wondering what going back to work without smoking will be like, but I have some WTA still and I plan to Use It.

I was playing with the Capella Marshmallow and put 5 drops into a small needle tip bottle with 5ml of HS Flue Cured. Once I tasted it I realized that 5% was too much. Now, I know what that underlying taste was that I used to hate in certain vendor juices!

I cut it with another 5ml of Flue Cured and it was better, but it was still at 2.5% and the weird taste was there, but in a lesser amount. I should have used one drop in the 5ml (100 drop) first try.

But ... that's how we learn the hard way. I always remember those attempts very well!

True enough.....lol. For me it's a very steep learning curve. Still haven't made anything I really like yet. But I will keep trying. Probably need to go to Hogwarts.

Is that a '56 Gold Top you got there in your picture? I noticed the P90's. Always wanted one of them. I've settled for a Cherry Red 335 '63 re-issue. Chuck Berry style........lol.

Yep, it's an Epiphone '56 Les Paul Goldtop reissue. It's a great guitar, but the P90s bug me since I'm used to Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates on my other two Les Pauls. It's somewhere in sound between my '79 Strat and the Seymour Duncan humbuckers in the other Les Paul. I guess it's just too clean.

I've thought about putting mini humbuckers in the Goldtop.

It's been my experience with some coils that they go dead tasting, right before they burn. I have no idea why this is, it can be somewhat random, and I'd imagine it may have something to do with the juice as well, though it kind of makes sense that if your coil is not functioning optimally, it's not going to wick as well, and deliver less taste. At least, it makes sense to me....

I just realised that the coil in my Cleito has been in there over three weeks. I'm still getting the nic hit and clouds at 50 watts but I'm thinking that maybe it's killing off taste. This is obviously a disadvantage when experimenting with home brews. Do old coils kill taste?

Old wicks are as bad as old coils. Both accumulate crud. The wick goes first.

I replace wicks every 3 to 5 days in rebuildables and the coil when it doesn't look shiny after a dry burn and water wash.
