I've wondered this for a while now... It is stated as fact that there is nothing faster than the speed of light, yet the universe expanded many many millions of light years in an instant. I fail to understand.

Stephen

Actually the possibility of moving faster than the speed of light can be proven to be possible with the same theory.

I am personally very interested in the results from the collider.

"Nothing" moves faster than the speed of light, it's an interesting loophole! Space expanded so fast following the big bang in such a small amount of time because "nothing" in this case was empty space. Planck time had to be conceived as a new unit of time to understand the big bang.

I love learning about the universe. Just this morning on the way to MOV, Brandy & I had a long conversation about Super Massive Black Holes slowly eating their way through our universe. -.^

My facebook science extravaganza transferred to Netflix! There's a series called "How the Universe Works" and it's fantastic! The second episode is about black holes. Did you know the math version of a black hole is balanced as an equation through the universe itself? There are scientists that think the other side of a black hole is a big bang because of this. Scientists have no idea what is going on in the center of one, and are open to the idea that there are higher laws than the physics we know and accept that black holes are subject to.

Wondertwin: Was that hosted by a really young guy? If so, I've seen some of those. I no longer have cable and surely do miss my Discovery and Nat Geo. I have also wondered what might lie on the other "side" of a black hole and stared in wonder at pictures of a nebula(star nursery me thinks?).

Stephen

That star nursery image is mind blowing

It's narrated by Mike Rowe, but there are lots of scientists that are featured in the episodes. It's from 2010 if that helps! Here's the netflix link:
