Mouth cancer...printed on my can?

Hello everyone-

I was just wondering if one of you good people could clarify this for me. I have been reading many articles and such on how...because of test findings, Sweden was able to remove the "may cause mouth cancer" from there cans. However, on my cans of "General" snus that i just received, in bold print it states "THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE MOUTH CANCER" Anyone know what the deal is with the contradictions? Thanks for your help!

The warning is there because the US government requires it. Has nothing to do with reality. When Swedish snus first showed up they didn't know what to do with it as far as labeling so they put on the same warning as US made smokeless.

Sweden may have removed the law, but in the US it is still law for all tobacco products to have some sort of warning label.

I guess they think that that label is going to make some kind of difference. Hey, we did a fine job of ignoring the warning on the cigarette packs for xx years. I am sure we can get used to ignoring this one. Especially since we know it is false.

The pity here is that untrue or wildly-exaggerated "warnings" on products such as snus and dissolvables diminish the impact of ALL tobacco warnings. The warnings are just another example of regulatory agencies shooting themselves in the foot, instead of targeting a proper message.
