I know that standard MRI units cost north of a million new English pounds. I know this because when they fed me into it I asked.

Yeah... They Ain't Cheap.

There is also this...

Machine Operation Costs
Part of the MRI cost is using the machine itself, as MRI procedures can be expensive to perform. Providing an MRI scan can cost anywhere from $90 to $200. The price depends on which procedure is performed, the facility’s location, and any available reimbursements.

Energy Usage
The amount of energy used by an MRI machine depends on how powerful it is. Electricity rates for MRI systems can range anywhere from $50 to $3,000 per month. If total MRI cost is an issue, this is an expense that should be considered when choosing a device.

Maintenance and repairs
MRI scanners don’t have many movable parts so it’s unlikely that the machine would experience extensive damage. They are sensitive however, so monthly checkups are recommended to make sure there aren’t any radio frequency leaks and that the systems are clean and working properly. Maintenance agreements typically range from $2000 to $10,000 per month depending on how powerful the machine is. Maintaining an MRI machine may be pricey, but less so than buying a new one.

How Much Does an MRI Cost?.

Never had an MRI, but I had a Cat Scan a couple of days ago as a part of a yearly physical. Lungs are clean and the only anomaly they found was a very tiny spot on my left kidney. The nurse from the doctor's office described it as a tiny pencil dot and said it's very common to see that in a kidney scan and nothing to worry about.

Also an interesting fact @zoiDman, as the resolution capability of an MRI scanner goes up. You get more artifacts and noise in the images.

So perhaps the cost is increased even more by this, as how many images will be not of satisfactory quality and therefore unusable?

And the one of the gold standard immaging studies for joints I believe is CT with contrast?

But they have to inject the joint with radiotracer, which as medics usually put it causes mild discomfort.

Yhea, right.

Medics who have never taken it?
