Well, a pentagram is not necessarily satanic. It is a very old symbol that predates Christianity and Judaism and therefore originally had nothing to do with Satan. Besides, he could be a modern pagan. Or maybe a huge math fan and wanted to honor his hero Pythagoras.

The up-side down cross is also associated with the martyrdom of St. Peter who was crucified up-side down. It has in the past been used as a Christian symbol though it is uncommon now.

I had a friend in high school whose parents wouldn't let her wear a peace symbol because they said it was a broken cross. I can think of another symbol that is now offensive that originated long before.

I had to look up the origin of the Peace Symbol:

The symbol is a combination of the semaphore signals for the letters "N" and "D," standing for "nuclear disarmament".[18] In semaphore the letter "N" is formed by a person holding two flags in an upside-down "V," and the letter "D" is formed by holding one flag pointed straight up and the other pointed straight down. Superimposing these two signs forms the shape of the centre of the peace symbol.[18][24][25] The original drawing by Gerald Holtom of the CND symbol is housed in the Peace Museum in Bradford, England.

So, ummm...they believed a made up symbol for nuclear disarmament was some how anti-Jesus. Wow. Talk about willful ignorance at work.

And what symbol would that be?

and many pagan or other symbols and special dates were changed into Christian ones, most notably Easter and Christmas. Makes me wonder what things will be like 3000 years from now.

Gardner....if my memory serves me correctly the pentagram is actually a Wiccan symbol representing the connection of the life forces. Somewhere down the line it got "adopted" by other "religions"

Not really a problem... A request from your twin Ms. Star. It was an older pic of Ihsahn and he was openly wearing a pentagram. She asked me to take it down, so I did. One of the few I'm willing to do that for. When I go on my comp tomorrow I'll post it here... It was only up maybe 5 minutes... :)

Wow I'm impressed. That was unnecessary but kind of you Sir. Reminds me of how all us smokers put up with non-smokers offensive hand gesture fanning, rudeness etc. while we were still being kind and trying not to offend them. I curtsey to you Sir.

I apologizie for disagreeing with so courteous a lady with such a cute avatar, but the pentagram can be traced to around 3000 BC in Mesopotamia, in Babylon. It is this connection with Babylon, the classic origin of evil to many Christians, that has created a negative association with the pentagram. But it also cropped up in other civilizations as five was a sacred number to many cultures.

The pentagram was adopted into Wicca, which is a very modern eclectic religion, by its creator, Gerald Gardner, who claimed decent from a much older religion.

Did you get that from Wicca-pedia?

I understand Morandir. They can get very nasty and very personal, very quickly. That is why I was trying to limit my discussion to symbols themselves, their history and past and current associations. Hopefully, I succeeded in that.

Oh, and I did want to point out that I have no relation to Gerald Gardner. Just in case anyone made that connection.

I also just noticed your title, "Ultra Big Mouthed Idiot". As I have never seen you I cannot comment on the size of your oral orifice but I can say that after talking wtih you you are definitely not an idiot. It is a pleasure to have met you and a pleasure to chat with you.
