The basic philosophy of any Good Martial Arts schools no matter the style is one that teaches you "How Not to Fight" it's not just a simple matter or skills learning, it's a manner of learning who you are and who you wish to be and how you wish to be seen. These are what I had instilled in the students when I was teaching them. When they have the respect for themselves and confidence within themselves this will translate to how they treat others and this also leads to them being respected for who they are.
I've been looking. I haven't really found a teacher yet that runs with this philosophy. I'd rather my daughter spend 3 months learning self control and discipline (which we are also working on every day with her), than just have her come out of it beating up all her friends when she doesn't get her way. A few of the places I have sat in on for lessons seem to be interested only in teaching the skills, and not the philosophy.
