I just started a new path in music. I joined a Celtic band called The Kailyarders. I am lost on the music a bit but it is really fun music. They have a lot of gigs booked for the next 3 months so the idea of becoming a working musician draws closer.

I vape everywhere. in 5 years I have never been asked to stop anywhere. I am up front, no stealth vaping... hell I was vaping in the crown council office LOL. I wear vaping company shirts to gigs. I always go up to the person in charge before and explain what I am doing first, then there is never an issue. Education goes a long way

If this works... this is one of the strangest recording performances I've ever done. I'm playing upright bass here. The other two instruments are drums and chromatic harmonica. I never saw a chart. No chord changes. We tried it a few times in rehearsal. I never quite grasped it without having a chordal instrument to cue me... Jimmy the drummer nailed it, I think, having understood his roll and the two of them recorded it alone - just drums and harp, that's all - then it was my turn to go into the studio and lay down my upright track and I was sweating bullets not knowing what I was going to do. This was the first and only take. After, I said "I'm done. I can't do better" having lost my nerve but I did add some double-stop spots on a different track. I actually like it now. It's really raw and quirky enough to be unique, at least to me.

Cool tunes, Bassnut! Sounds a little like The Dixie Dregs playing at the Grand Ole Opry! It's definitely not your normal musical genre, but you did well. It all fits together neatly. The bass line is solid and relevant to the tunes.
Now that you have me thinking about Dixie Dregs, why not post a video? OK, here it is!

This is Pat playing with Scott Henderson quite a while back. Scott took Pat on tour with him to Europe and featured him on guitar as well.

Got a nice workout with bassnectar on NYE.. such a weak crowd of 10,000+people..I despise that stuff/same thing for 5 hours.. but I danced my a off regardless..
hopefully about to get a few sessions in.. but I think the trio I've got going has been doing well..no structure, just free jammy jam jams..wife, and old friend Ricky..really trying to get back into ableton and others, but live music is way more my thing.. www.soundcloud.com/suspect-k

That is some serious harp playing. I have heard milk bone before but it is definately worth hearing again.. oh I am not a serious harp player. hell I hate wearing the neck thing to play. I just like to play with any instrument. Those chromatic harps are expensive to experiment... I am renting an irish tenor banjo monday (won a rental cert in a draw, why not?). harp is to personal to rent haha

I'm digging the thread..let's keep it up. Check out sts9/sound tribe sector 9..I have to recommend them, again.. I haven't been able to see them since Murph left. I know the bassist that replaced him is better.. she's standing back a little with all the shows we've seen streamed..but this band changed my life..and seeing DJ Shadow made me think I could easily go at "this" alone..he blew me away when I had the chance to see him at a festival.
Ego makes it pretty easy to lose sight of the point of what we're all trying to do, and that applies to any art.. and most things..but you can't
I have a question though...I just knocked my warwick's top pickup out. I know it's a simple fix. I actually went to ask the guy I traded my stuff, and $100 for this bass, specifically for new pickups.. I'll just stop there...
Anyway, the pickups are right under the strings..and I sometimes slap REALLY crazy-hard.. so it's going to happen again with just applying epoxy to the wood nuts.
What should I be looking for in pickups for a 4string bass, warwick streamer? I don't know if I should mod it for active, or if there are some pickups that sound as good, sitting flush with the body? This bass plays and feels amazing..I definitely miss my 5th string... I only need one...but I'm open to replacing both of them..I like the idea of keeping the stock pickup at the bottom..but I don't know what I'm doing.
I really want to double up my drum set. I love the sound with my high tom really tight, but it doesn't work out for the way I play drums most of the time..it's great playing everything I have, but all the needs and wants with all of it..starving musician doesn't roll off the tongue well.

EMG are great pickups that are extremely popular. My favorite so far is the set of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates I installed in my #1 Les Paul. They were designed for Billy Gibbons to replicate the sound of a certain '59 Les Paul he owned. From what I understand he installed them on all his Les Pauls so that his tone would be the same no matter which guitar he played on tour.

I hardly ever take my acoustic to a gig, but Baggs is one of the better acoustic-electric systems I've heard. My Alvarez AD60 has the Alvarez 600T MKII system with only a piezo under the bridge. It's adequate but it eats 9v batteries like crazy if you don't remove the battery when you aren't using it. They should have included a battery disconnect switch. Turning it off doesn't complete stop the drain. Lots of people add a mic to that system to bring out the nuances of the tone. Without a mic, so many acoustic electrics lean toward a hard electric tone when amplified.
When my wife offered to buy me a new acoustic for Christmas one year and I went to the local music store and spent a good part of the day playing in the acoustic room looking for the best combination of fingerboard action and tone for under $500. At one point there were several guys who stopped in and jammed with me
. I finally narrowed it down to a Blue Fender and a Black Alvarez for best tone. My wife didn't like blue (and I didn't either) so I walked out with the Alvarez AD60.

and a new mixing board is on it's way too. should be here next week. I was having issues last gig using Y cables in the vocal harmonizer since I got the new baggs pre amp. I had to constantly plug and unplug stuff. and using my zoom r24 recording board for live was silly. this was a good price and the aux send will work to send all instruments to the harmonizer with one in and out to board. so much crap I need to simplify setups

Been pretty lucky with my battery powered stuff, though I carry a lot of 9 volts now, and the tuners and uke use the little round ones and they last surprisingly long
oh I played a couple basses yesterday too. Those new micro basses. Gold Tone and the ..... They have a kind of nylon string with pickups. surprisingly decent acoustic volume and a stand up bass sound. I am impressed. I personally liked the gold tone better because the scale was a bit larger and wider fret spacing. I think I have to add one to the collection.

I don't use 9v powered pedals anymore since the Peavey Tube 60 has all that built in along with a Sanpera II controller pedal. If I did, I think I'd look at some of the outboard power supplies that claim to be able to run up to 10 pedals at once. I used to spend comparative big bucks on 9v batteries and the alkalines aren't cheap. The average multiple output 9v supply goes for about $35 to $70.
The other alternative I'd look at for 9v batteries would be this one. 4 bay 9v charger with four 9v Li-ion batteries for $25. That would pay for itself in short order.
