Without going into too much detail, it is a blended preamp design that has seperate EF806 and 6SL7 signal paths each with a unique tone stack and gain control. I plan to mate it to a pair of KT66, KT88, or KT120 for 50, 100 or 150 watt versions as well as a preamp only version. In theory it will be able to be bright & compressed and loose & fat at the same time... and built for hifi frequency response. Thinking big picture, I already bought the domain :) http://www.mythicamps.com/ with the Preamp being called the "Yggdrasil" and the 150 watt version called the "Odin", the 100 watt called "Frigg" and the 50 watt called "Baldr" All 3 will have a preamp out for driving powered speakers :D

Sounds like the stoner rock guys will be all over that... on name alone. I love the idea of being able to opt for some clean power as well as something with a little more sag. :headbang: I like my sound pretty dark and grindy, but it has to have quite a bit of attack and tight articulation as well, or the low and/or fast notes go to mush and just don't cut through. I think if I went to real amps right now, the Randal/Fortin Satan is the only thing that really strikes that balance, and lets you tweak it yourself with the "girth" and "grind" controls. Basically different gain stages for different frequency chunks.

Preamp only is a godsend too as guys like me (who live in apartments), who can just chain it to an impulse loader and go. Make sure it has a DI out on it as well. :thumb:

HA! I'm a member there... hardly ever post, rarely remember to visit. Joined in 2007, haven't visited since Sept 2013

I got banned a while back. The rule is (in theory), you're not allowed to talk s__ on bands that are members on the forum, and when a member did (unknowingly, it was a pro band who at least one member had an ss.org account), so I called him on it and pointed out his inability to follow the rules of the forum. I got banned. Said member was a moderator.

Wow! So much tech talk! Well, it beats politics or television.

Is there anything that doesn't beat politics on television?

Question: Do any of you like Tommy Emmanuel?

not off the top of my head, but I'll hit youtube tomorrow.

And another question: Do people ever post their work from youtube on this thread?

People definitely have... I have nothing recent or decent to share video wise... but it is Friday night and I feel like embarrassing myself... so how about old band cassettes ripped to MP3

Here is an old cheesy Pop Rock band circa 1993 http://myselfalone.com/tracks/mp3s/Bebop_Gypsy-Shade_of_the_sun.mp3 (guitarist's ADAT based studio)
Here is an old cheesy Alt Rock band circa 1992 http://myselfalone.com/tracks/mp3s/Age_of_Fable-Pride.mp3 (recorded rehearsal with just a couple SM57 hung in the room)
Here is an old cheesy Art Funk band circa 1989 http://myselfalone.com/tracks/mp3s/Sprout-Daily.mp3 (live recording with vocals added later via Tascam 4 track cassette thing)
(catching a theme here :p )

Here's a question for you good folks. Cause I can't make up my mind here. Got a Washburn, WD11SCE. I love it. It sings, sometimes without any guidance from me! Really is a beautiful acoustic, beautiful voice. So now, the G bridge pin just won't stay in. At all. Really frustrating. And here's my dilemma. I've got a warranty, that runs out Dec 1, this year. Talked to the company (Sweetwater, not Washburn) and they told me to ship it back to check out. But...I'm really leery of sending this through the postal service, really scares me. Part of me says take it somewhere local and pay out of pocket, then the nagging part of me says use the warranty, stupid! I'm REALLY conflicted here and running out of (warranty) time. Wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this particular problem...

a loose bridge pin is likely a cheaper fix then paying to ship the guitar back and forth to Sweetwater. I'd take it local and tell them check it out. Explain that if it is a routine fix... do it, if it is major you intend to ship it for warranty repair.

Again, thanks James:)
Just got back from a local shop. Problem gone. Somehow the pin is in and sitting nicely. IDK, wouldn't for me...

Anyway, charged me $4 (gave him 20) and saved me all kinds of shipping fees and probably at least a month and a half turnaround.

Happy here:D

Where did everyone go? this thread use to be fairly active...

Been writing and woodshedding when I can, but listening more than playing. Sarah Jarosz has been in my head the last couple days

It needs a post here and there to keep it at the top of the current post list in the lounge. My fault, I've been tied up in other threads too much and didn't realize how long it's been since I dropped in.

GABBA has been going strong with Allman Brothers Band stuff lately.

Videos of the annual concert are on the page below. Double click in the center of a video for full screen. The singer is my third cousin (recently deceased) and most of the guys on stage are friends or friends of friends.

So, who's playing gigs and who's just jamming at home?

I recently started a cloud based music project with some former musical co-conspirators and associates from all over the country (well, the globe if you count the guy in Australia). The basic concept is: "Drop riffs into dropbox folder; a free for all for the next guy to build-on/chop-up the part ensues; pass it on". Just got the first set of riffs up there and the first song construct begins. Should be fun stuff. :headbang:

I'm so busy with my 11 month old and moving into my house after 5 years of 'on again off again' remodeling / renovations / repairs... my playing is down to about 5 hours a week of wood shedding. Trying to use the time to improve upon my theory and mechanics. After the holidays I'm itching to call up some drummers and see who has the time to jam /write this year.

Aww... if you love music enough, you'll find a way to work it in! :) Everything's a balance, I'm sure moreso with kids.

I've been fortunate to be born ugly enough that I'm still single and childless at 38, with plenty of time on my hands to make music.

I work music into everything... just taking a break from jamming with others. Life is definitely a balancing act!

I was 46 and my wife 39 when our daughter was born... still plenty of time for you :) We had never wanted kids, then 5-8 years in we were "meh, if it happens... so be it". We were 19 years into our relationship when... "SURPRISE!"

First thing I did was buy a motorcycle :p

My Wife and I are early retired and managed to stay childless. I guess that was meant to be because my wife and I pick up two grammar school nephews from school most days and keep them until Mom gets off work. I've learned a lot about managing and getting along with kids and one of those things is that it's nice to be able to give them back at the end of the day!

Kids will keep you mentally young if you let them. The 6 year old nephew chides me into playing Xbox 360 and Wii every chance he gets. The 10 year old is happy to watch Netflix and play games on his tablet. I'm the guy who fixes all the handheld electronics and toys that they manage to break. I've replaced a digitizer screen and a mangled USB connector. Anything that doesn't work is brought to Uncle Dave for evaluation and repair.

Same thing here, wife is 10 years younger, but we're both retired. I just do home recording now. But I wonder sometimes if I'd be afforded that luxury if we had kids. IDK...
(although I'm sure people with kids do it too)
