I was 46 and my wife 39 when our daughter was born... still plenty of time for you :) We had never wanted kids, then 5-8 years in we were "meh, if it happens... so be it". We were 19 years into our relationship when... "SURPRISE!"

Well, I haven't had a date in over two years so if that pattern continues, I'm pretty safe.

First thing I did was buy a motorcycle :p

Yeah, if I can keep this career thing on a roll, it might be sportscar time again. :thumb:

When I was last single about 35 years ago I drove a TR7, followed by a Datsun 280ZX that I bought new. The good old days!

Nowadays, it's a Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab that I bought new a couple of years ago. Actually, I like the truck (almost) better than the sports cars, although the 280ZX was a great handling luxury sports car. Most amps and guitars fit into a quad cab pickup nicely, with a bed in the back for larger cabs.

I drive a 1993 K1500 Blazer, the wife a 1994 K1500 Suburban (both slightly lifted and built)... my dream vehicle currently is a 1969-1972 GMC Jimmy. I work for a Corvette and classic muscle car restro shop these days. Always surrounded by 50s-70s cars... I'll take my 93 Blazer over most of them.

I drove a company van for most of my work career. I was a tech rep. I usually kept something for casual use, but went most everywhere in the van. I drove a 1998 Dodge Ram for 8 years before buying the new one.

My wife wants leather seats in her 2013 Ford Flex for Christmas and I'm thinking Katzskins. There's a dealer near us that installs Katzskins. Any opinions about getting the best price for aftermarket leather?

I got my Line-X bedliner installed in my truck at a lower price through the car dealer calling the Line-X dealer and getting a quote. I'm wondering if the Ford dealer calls and sets it up the price will drop on the leather package.

Retail on the Ford Flex Katzkins package is $1099 on the internet and I'm not sure what the labor will be. When we bought it two years ago the quotes for aftermarket leather were $800 for two row and $1000 for three row. Hers has the jump seats in the third row.

Call around... katskins are good stuff, I've used Home which is similar in price and quality. There are lots of custom shops around with the skills to install new covers. FYI: I'm the computer tech / web guy for the shop... although I do help with occasional grunt work when I'm not too busy.

When we bought, I tried to get her to move up from SE to LE for the sound system and a deal on the seats. I think she wishes she had done that after seeing my pickup amenities. The Flex has nice vinyl and cloth insert seats, but she's always wanted leather. I'm thinking about doing leather in my 2013 Ram Big Horn at some point since I plan to keep it a while. Both the vehicles have about 23K miles after 2 1/2 years and still look new inside. When I look at the new ones I see virtually the same vehicles as the ones we have, so trading would just result on odometer setback and that new vehicle smell for a while. Neither has been smoked in, so they are still nice inside.

Vaping is good for vehicles. I can't imagine how people hated to ride with us when we smoked. :w00t:

Here's a hot concert video: Joe Bonomassa in concert "Live @ the Hammersmith Apollo London,March 28 - 2013". As good as he is, I always wonder just how good he could be if he'd just develop some strength in his little finger. I see too many guitar players who never used their pinkie. Some might be 25% better if they did.

The other day a discussion about music popped up in the outside. Several of us decided that a thread on music would be good to have in the lounge, so here it is. Do you play an instrument? Have you ever played in a band? Are you a musician who would like to learn or help others decipher the finer points of playing an instrument?

Tell us about your background and let's start some talk about what you do and share some stories, musical theory tips, and anything that will support a discussion beneficial to those who love to play!

I'm one of those who played in bands constantly through the late 60s, 70s, 80s, and forward. I played in weekend warrior classic rock bands that played the top 40 mix for people who loved to dance. I play lead guitar, enough keyboard to support my home studio, and do backup vocals. Sometimes, I was forced into doing 5 or 6 lead vocals a night, but I'm happy just paying guitar.

Five years ago, a bass player friend and I started a Praise band at church. We do the popular christian tunes during a contemporary service at church. I've found that this is a great outlet for old classic rock players. We get to jam here and there and the congregation loves it as much as we do! Occasionally, we will take an outside gig and play for a birthday party, wedding reception, or other celebration.

What's your interest or niche in the music field?

Used to play Piano, then 20 years ago fell in love with the Native American flute. Played until Duprodens Contracture messed up my left hand

When I was first learning to play guitar I toyed around with the piano and figured out how to form the chords and licks I played on guitar. Guitar was always my first love, but I can still move the basics from a song over to the piano. Keyboards are the best way to do synth parts for home recording if you want to add drums, horns, keys, or just about anything that can be synthesized.

It only takes about two years to becow proficient at the guitar. The piano takes a lot longer.

I forgot I also toyed with a ukulele bu FLEA. Sold it in 2010 when I moved to New Mexico.

Guitar was always my main instrument. I play around with MIDI on a keyboard in my home studio and it's pretty amazing what you can create with synthesized tracks.

I played 63 gigs last year. Starting all over again as of feb 6th... not going to take as many this year. I had only 3 weekends off fron Feb to november. Didn't get to ride the bike much.

Picked up new toys. My PA and such os totally self contained power wise now. Can play anywhere. I just traded the Ghuzeng and fiddle for an A style mandola and a Dean Mondo Mando (9 string, jave it strung as an octave mando with a low C to do mandocello stuff too). Traded in the Squire Bass and picked up a Gold Tone M Bass. Tiny bass with big sound. Those rubber strings give it a stand up sound.

The comparison instruments are my Gold tone mandola and OM

So it was YOU ... Hypnophone, who I have been listening to in the group, "Schroomville". I wasn't clear on who posted what, but you really cover the Allman Bros beautifully! It's quite a feat. You are in North Texas, so how close does that put you to Fredricksburg (sp? it's been many years) and Austin? I used to swim in Lake Travis and go to concerts at Armadillo World Headquarters before they turned it into a parking lot. Joni Mitchel was right after all. A parking lot ... gasp!!!!!!!!! I also used to go to The Rome In (when they were open) and I was the only customer in there one afternoon when Stevie Ray Vaughan was doing his sound check. I had no idea who he was, but it was while he was playing a lot locally with his brother in Double Trouble.

I bet I wouldn't recognize Austin anymore, but I could always find the house I lived in on San Gabriel. You must have heard Carolyn Wonderland out of Austin who was helped much by Johnny Winter before he passed on. She's wondrous. We have an office in Austin that we might transfer to in the future. A very far off future!

Hmmm, Schroomville. Is that a place or has it anything to do with mycology? How did you get the name? Great music. You do play with bad asses ... hehe! I have been meaning to tell you that I was a member of "The Church of the Subgenius" now nearly since its inception!!! I converted as many people as I could! The church of Bob ... ha-ha!:)

Heh Heh... I don't know how they named the band.... They don't know shiite aboot fungi.

I'm just happy to be playing with badasses!!!
