Title says it all really.

I build my Mutation X2 with offset coils. I personally like it this way. The guy behind the counter at my local shop called me out on it. Am I doing it wrong? The way I see it if I'm enjoying that can't be true, but I thought I'd ask for a broader opinion. How do you guys and gals build on your RDAs with air vents designed to spiral your vape? Cheers!

If your atomizer is functional then there's really no "wrong" way, just different ways of doing things.

Are you talking about the positive block and choosing which hole to use when you secure the lead? If you are offered the posi block then most people will tend to use the posi hole further away from the corresponding negative post. This just gives you more room, especially if you are using longer coils, like for parallel wraps.

I will say that having them centered might lend a hand to more even airflow. A centered coil in a round atomizer will have a more even distance from each part of the coil to the cap. If it's more to the left or right then it's more visible to see one end of the coil closer to the cap than the other. This assumes you have a horizontal coil and the coil itself is not set at angle. You can also get more even wick tails if centered.

The local shop guy should have explained that instead of just calling you out and saying it's wrong. It's just different.

This is what I was talking about. The way I build my coils on my Mutation X is as shown. Hope that clarifies what I meant. That is the coil in question.

I have a Mutation X ver 1 which has a single positive post hole. My first builds were with centered coils. My present build is offset like yours, allowing me to have much more similar length coil legs.

Either way vapes just fine. If you go too far offset, it becomes hard to get the one wick tail down into the juice well. Other than that there is nothing wrong with either setup. If the guy said you were doing it wrong, he was wrong. Offset actually has the advantage of shorter total length of legs which means more efficient use of the battery because a higher percentage of the wire will be touching wick and making vapor.

I think I will be staying offset in future, but not quite as far offset as in your build. If you used the positive post hole closest to the negative post that the coil is attached to, I would switch to the positive post hole farthest away from the neg. But it's not 'wrong' to do it the way you did it, I just feel the way I suggest may be a bit better.
