So I decided to to rebuild the Rocket I use on my MVP and took some photos along the way:
The coil: 28ga Kanthal, 2.2mm ID (a piece of coat hanger), 9 wraps, shooting for 1.5Ω
I keep the bit in the coil as I mount it. In the case of the Rocket and it's tiny screws, I like to wrap the leads around the screw once to secure them. My
kayfun lite clone it's not as much of a problem. Position the coil so that the open ends squarely face the
juice wells.
Coil mounted, with leads trimmed.
I prefer the coil a bit higher for better air flow.
Testing the resistance on the MVP. Got what I was aiming for:
Test firing the coil before wicking:
Wicked with CVS organic cotton balls. I could care less if the cotton is organic or not, but I've found this brand has a nice consistency for wicking.
After wetting the tails with
e-liquid, a test fire.
I position the tails up, and then carefully install the chimney base.
Gently tuck the tails into the wells, but do not over pack them. I've found it works just fine to cover the liquid channels in the base. Basically, I reposition the tails downward and fan them out to cover the floor of the juice wells. This has always wicked well, with no dry hits, or flooding. I use one of my vast selection of small blue screwdrivers for this task.
Vapes like a champ and is wicking well as confirmed by the nice little air bubble I get from each liquid channel after a vape.
