But it works just fine, IF YOU DON"T LIKE FLAVOR. I did this, HATE IT. Going to sell mine when I get a chance. Even a 2 second draw was too much for me. JMHO

I just finished my 801 magnum mod and I must admit the regulator is a must have! I had made 6volts magnums and it just tasted burnt!
I feel the 5v taste burnt. I have used it enough today to determine I don't like it, so I don't think I would like a pass-through either, glad I never ordered one. I like full charged 3.7v batteries putting out 4.2v, but that extra to 5v is just too much for me. I rechecked the voltage and it is only putting out 5v at the connector (unloaded), but I don't know for sure what it is putting out with the atty attached and a load, could be putting out more, I have no way to measure that.

When I run these , they shut down after the battery voltage gets down to about 5.5 volts. So I cant see it trying to make 5 volts with an input of 3.7 - 4.2 ...
He'd need a spacer for the second battery or he'd have an open circuit. Hooking up a single battery and seeing if there's voltage on the output WOULD let us know if the regulator shuts everything down or just passes it through (goes uncontrolled) as the voltage falls, though.

Ok here is an update. I have been using it tonight and found out a few things.
1) You have to keep it almost flooded, gurgle sound, then you get flavor.
2) only a 2 to 3 second draw max.
3) after 4 to 5 draws top again.
4) no more than 6 per minute, or less.

It is lots better now but there is a learning curve with a higher voltage device. If I forget and take a longer draw, even with it almost flooded, it is harsh. Just remember this to anyone that builds one and is not used to it, it is different.

Sorry to hear you don't like it, but nothing ventured nothing gained.

I'm curious; If you take one of the batteries out, does it still vape or does the 5V regulator not have enough power and shut down the circuit?

It's a TO-220 dropout regulator, so input voltage must be higher than output voltage. The datasheet from TI says V_in should be between 5.45-9v.

Why not add a resistor between the voltage regulator and the atty. to get the perfect 4.3 to 4.4 volts? A fresh 18650/cr123a at 4.2-4.3 is perfect in my opinion. With the VR and a resistor you should be able to maintain this pretty consistently.
I agree 4.2v from a full charged battery is great. A resister might work, but figuring out watts/amps/volts/etc to get the right size, little much for me. Now a 4.2v regulator, guess I need to check the TI website for such an animal.

You are right, has to have an input over the regulated output or it puts out nothing.

I have learned how to use it, have been so far 5 hours last night and 6 hours today, 11 hours total and still going strong. Going to keep going until it cuts off just to see how long it goes. I am a heavy vaper so this will be a good battery test.

Well I got around 16 hours out of it before it just quit working. I am a heavy vapor so I feel this is good. I go through a 510 battery in about 1 1/2 hours, and my single battery box at 3.7v goes 6 to 7 hours. I think I am going to try a 3.7v mod with 2 batteries in parallel, wonder how long that will last? Just need to find a 3xAA box, this 4xAA box is a little big.

Hey Burnie,

I missed this thread, Nice job on the mod...:)

Cisco...
Thanks Cisco

More to come once I get some parts from China. Just wish i could find a source for 510 connectors, otherwise I'm going to have to destroy a couple of good batteries 8-o I only have 1 RCA with a 510 and over 30 attys, I can get all the 901 connectors from Nerf, but I only have 4 attys, really sucks.

Burnie -

Grab up a couple of 401 chargers from Ruyan - they're about 3 bucks apiece. You'll need to either grind down the connector some to expose the atomizer holes, or slot the top like a castle nut - that's what I used for my 510 nicostick and usb passthrough that I made.

Added bonus - you get a charger board to play with.

Yea I have thought about that option, but other than connectors I am all stocked up, so I am sure the freight would eat me up, plus we have the 2 to 3 week wait for delivery.

Try to hold out until you order more juice, then.... grab a couple bottles of RY4 and a charger or two...
I think I have around 700ml of 36mg juice right at the moment, so not really looking to order more anytime soon.

I do have several Health E-Cigarettes and the atty for them will screw on the 510 atty, but not all the way down, anyone ever tried one of those? Guess I'll just tear apart one of the chargers, I have 5 so no big loss. They were one of my mistakes when I first started vaping.

Not sure about those but a 401 atty will exactly fit a 510. I ordered two of the 401's from rocky mountain for 7.00 each shipped. I made a box mod using the 510 atty for the connector and was planning on using the 401's after they go down for a 510 mod, but the 401 is just a waste to use on a box mod IMO. I will never burn it up cause it doesn't get but a few good hits before you have to wait for the juice to wick through that tiny cart. Haven't used up a single battery charge in two weeks.

I know what you mean about the 5 volt burning up the juice. I have a 4081 box mod using a 4.5 volt wall wort that another member posted a link to. It is fine for a five second burn but any longer and the juice just taste burned. It works well on the 4081 because the wick was missing and would not work using a regular cart, but drip two drops and I get a full analogs worth of hits. And what a hit indeed, no high nic juice needed but clouds of vapor from a 1/3 vg cut.
