Scary. I shall take this as a warning.

I ordered 18350 protected batteries. Could someone post a link to a reliable (and cheap) meter with instructions on how to use it?

For $5.00 you can get one of these

So with the charger I'm using peak charge for 3v. should be 3.6 and mine are at 4.56v. The strange thing is the AC adapter is putting out 12v and the actual charger is supposed to knock it down to 3.5. Why do they not supply an AC adapter that outputs 3.5 v so the charger can just pass it on to the batteries like that?

Probably so that they can claim the charger is of multi-usage sources -- ie, you could plug that charger directly into the car's cigarette lighter. The Tr001 is set up the same way, as is, at least one, of my standard e-cig battery chargers.

Listen, some of these meters that people are buying are pretty damn cheap. I wonder how accurate they are, and how accurate yours is, in particular. Can you measure something else off a different charger just to get a better idea of what is going on? Perhaps, a standard Ni-cad battery for 1.5 volts? I'd hate to see you go through this whole exercise just to find out that the meter isn't accurate. I have my Fluke calibrated once a year, but it wouldn't be worth if for an inexpensive DMM.

A Fluke, huh? How far out on Lawn Guyland are you? Can I come visit once a month to test my batteries?

Very far out -- NOT! LOL About 3/4 mile past the Queens border.

Sears sells a few different models of DMMs under the Craftsman label, so they are guaranteed like the rest of their tools. I've seen one in their ads for $14.99 or so. I've never used it but I'd have to think it's a better piece of equipment than the real cheap ones I've seen people point to on this site. I have a Fluke because my profession requires it. There's no need for anyone to have one for their e-cigs. <g> But, they are plenty of good options without going super cheap, IMHO.

So I just burnt out my 3rd atty today. I thought the first two were coincidence but when this last one went I decided to check voltage. I've had 4 silver and yellow Tenergy batts since I've had the Chuck. About a month. I've been using 2 of them since this morning when I took them off charge. They are measuring 4.6 and 4.62! Back in the Chuck and there's 9.28v at the connector!!!!!! What the Hell!?? I took the 2 other batts that were in the charger and done and measured them. The were both at 5.72v and together in the Chuck are measuring 11.52v!!!!!!!!!!! No wonder I'm buring through attys but what's happening to the batteries. I'm thinking the charger is screwed since it's measuring 5.5v and should be 3.5. I'm surprised these batteries havn't blown up or tripped the pc or something. Now I not only need new attys but a new charger too.

I have the same exact setup. The charger itself reads 3.85V with no battery in it. With two batteries in overnight, both read 3.85 in the morning. Placing two of them (7.7 V) under load with a KR-808 carto and the voltage drops to 6.32 volts. So, under load its dropping 1.4 volts.

I suspect that yours are dropping some also, but not near enough to keep from cooking your attys obviously. What does you charger read (without batts)?

Its a bit tricky to measure battery voltage under load. I made a test set to do this test and others.

Interesting that this charger SHOULD be stopping at 3.6V as it says on the back of it and in the specs. I wonder if it was designed and tested at 110 VAC, and if someone has say 117V or 120V house power it goes up. Hmmm. Very poor regulation if that is the case.

Houdini, what does your AC power and the wall wart read? I have 115.3 VAC and the wall wart that came with the charger is putting out 11.99 VDC.

Don't worry. The train tickets would end up costing more than buying a multimeter.

So, I still like this one because I can use my Amazon credit (and it has good reviews.) But if you think it's no good, which Sears models are okay?

ETA: Is the thing pronounced "multi-meter" or "mull-TIM-it-er"?
Amazon sells Flukes too. :D

Lilibet when I have over $100 in Amazon gift certificates... I'll buy something else anyway. ;)

First is correct. Multi because it measures multiple things (ohms, volts, amps and sometimes more).
Thermometers measure therms but we don't pronounce it thermo-meter.

ETA: Never mind. I looked it up in the dictionary. It's muhl-tim-i-ter. (Insert rude smiley here.)

I stand corrected! Got the why its called that and how it's pronounced a bit mixed up. Oh well. They say the first thing to go is your mined.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Poeia. :D I have a balance left over from Christmas and I'm planning to use it for my next Chuck.
It doesn't work. I have an Amazon credit card so I get a $25 gift certificate for every $2,500 I spend. I had $25 in but knew I was due for another one. I delayed ordering for 2 weeks (one waiting for my statement to close and one waiting for the certificate to show up.) I finally gave up and ordered, expecting to use the $25 and it didn't apply it to the purchase. At least I didn't wait the 3 more days until the second certificate arrived.

But I bought USP VG, syringes, needles and peel & stick labels for my vaping habit from there. The labels were the most bizarre purchase -- I got 24 packs each with 306 round labels for $2.07. (They've gone up since then.) For some reason a couple of sheets in each pack don't have sticker backs but when you have over 7,000 of them it doesn't matter.

This one looks like the one they usually run on sale. It has a built-in thermo-meter too. <giggle>

It's pricey at $32, I think. I'd wait for a sale.

Drats! Well, I'm getting a second Chuck no matter what and being an Amazon junkie (with an Amazon credit card too), I'm sure I'll find something else to spend it on. I didn't know they sold vaping supplies; I'll have to check that out.
