has anyone gone scientific othis stuff? im wondering if a bit of paper chromatography might help. it will seperate the ingredients out so you can get a better look at them. if there's anything freaky in there that has nothing to do with standard flavorings (my personal fear and the reason i wont smoke it) theres a chance they could be found.

Yeah, you could theoretically do chromatography on Boba's to find the ingredients, but you would then have to do the same for EVERY potential ingredient in order to match them (plus the ingredients themselves would change over time - oxidation, degeneration, etc. - they are not stable).

I used to work in a Lab many years ago, and it's very do-able, but for the costs involved (Mega $$$), you could buy a lifetime supply of Boba's, and throw in the Gorilla juice too!
Just my two cents...

From what I understand, you cannot really discern actual ingredients with chromatography, only molecular compounds. If you know what ingredient you want to test for, i.e. almond, for example, then that's much more feasible. But sending a lab a bottle of Boba's, and asking for an ingredient list isn't going to happen (trust me, I've tried ;) ).

i was thinking something much more 1930's. just cut the bands apart with scissors and taste them. also, you could use it as a test against the clones you try.

this is wy i said paper chromatography. it's not very accurate compared to other methods but has some unique advantages. You won't get a formula, but you might get some ideas about what that special som'tin som'tin is.

I've been thinking about the red color. No flavoring that I have gives any of my clones that color. When u read the description on the website it says "a unique t'bac blend". Folks on the reddit quest for bobas were back on the idea of Boba being a reference to the tea. From what I have read Boba tea is usually made with a black tea, which brews red. On a side note, I think eitanos recipe (haven't tried the version with b&m yet) is excellent. I had to sub TFA toasted almond for LOR but I can definitely see the potential. I added 3 drops ACV to the recipe. Will be ordering some LOR natural almond soon. I'm going to try a black tea extract with some NET flavoring I have. The snus mellow extract should be a pretty good place to start. Also, Slohand what was the verdict at your vape meet?

Thank you taofishdude!

BTW the combination of Black Cigar, Graham Cracker and Cherry Natural does change the color toward red, maybe that is the way to find the right percentage in the mix; it’s really close in my opinion (Latest version). I do think it’s still missing one more tobacco element (except the percentage)

Any suggestions?

I will have to try the version with the black cigar, but I think there is a musty pipe type note missing. I have noticed when my wick gets dry when vaping bobas it smells like burning pipe tobacco. Like captain black or something.

The Black Cigar does change it a lot, it’s very dominant.

Found only Seedman`s Captain Black Type flavor, who knows of any other/better flavor/place to get it?

Running low :-(again) on the other supplies, would be good a place that carries all/most components!?

I bought some captain black from wizard labs. They carry every common brand except Lorann's naturals it would appear.

One stop DIY shop has some of the rest, the VZ for their super concentrates.

Argh! Too many!

Sorry for the long delay in my promised results ... life happens :)

Here are the seven (plus a Gorilla Juice) Clone recipes that were tested by at least 14 vapers. The real Boba's was always vaped first and all others were tried against it and never in the same order.

RBA dripping atties were used.

Other important notes,
- not all flavorings were 100% VG
- all bases were 12mg at 100% VG
- 15% flavor to base
- B&M Plus = Ecig Express
- Tobacco Express Captain = Ecig Express
- Black Honey Tobacco = Ecig Express
- Coconut = Capella
- Cotton Candy = LorAnn
- Chocolate Fudge Brownie = Capella
- Cinnamon Danish Swirl = Capella
- Graham Cracker = Capella
- Bannana Nutbread = FlavorArt
- Cherry = Canvape Pro Series?
- Almond Oil = LorAnn
- Sweetner = Ethyl Maltol Crystals in VG
- Steep time one week through to three weeks by end of trial

Boba's Clone #1
Black and Mile Plus 60.0%
Cotton Candy 20.0%
Coconut 20.0%

Boba's Clone #2

Banana Nutbread 30.0%
Sweetener 10.0%

Boba's Clone #7

The results for "rate which is most like the orginal" scored in the following order (most to least);

Some comments;

Looks like I'm buying a some Capella. Thank you for posting SloHand. Your diligence is really appreciated.

EDIT: Well, that was an expensive purchase of almost every Capella flavor and a few tobaccos from ECX. I'm looking forward to trying everything!

I wonder where the ECX tobaccos are from…

I mixed:
3% tobacco blend alc (TFA)
3% snus mellow net
3% graham cracker (TFA)
3% cinnamon Danish (TFA)
3% cherry natural (LOR)
1% toasted almond (TFA)
2% em
3 drops acv per 10 ml
2 drops Vz black cigar per 10 ml
2 drops TFA smooth per 10 ml

It is awesome, with 0 steep time:) Just missing the elusive raisin note, I'm going to try a little fa Tuscan next batch , it has a raisin smell to me.

Wizard labs stock the seedman flavors as well as TFA. They don't have LOR tho.

They have a few LOR flavors (specifically, I know I've ordered LOR banana creme from them) but I've never seen them carry the natural line. Of course their website is offline so I can't link to it right now :)

Thanks for all the hard work Mr. SloHand...looks great! Quick question...Flavor Art doesn't seem to have a Banana Nut Bread flavoring (I've searched for it extensively - no joy)..

Could it be from another vendor??

I'm ordering all the stuff for the Gorilla Juice clone (Love GJ), but can't seem to find that anywhere.
Thanks

Good idea you decided to add the Cherry and Almonds.
Glad I was right and they were part of the winning version, good work!

Oh and I missed that you used the Tobacco Blend Alc. in the winning formula (it`s not included in the main ingredients list) Actually the winning formula is exactly my previous version posted before!..:-}
