I'm 100% with you on this lev. I think the recipe is much simpler than what we are seeing in this thread. I think the bulk of the flavor comes from the tobacco extract itself with little need for the other flavors. Some pipe or cigar tobacco can taste really sweet or chocolaty. Idk why people keep saying bb is not a net. I think it is

Absolutely agree. The creator of Boba's Bounty himself (Ben) has stated more than once that the recipe is very simple..its made up of only FOUR ingredients. Since it is not available in Zero Nic, is listed as a tobacco flavor, and is supposedly 40% flavoring (again, according to Ben)....all indications are that it has to have a NET as its base component.

So if once and for all someone might be able to provide a recipe for the Black and Mile, even just a suggestion that gets me started in the right direction, because as Levitas says, there won't be a perfect clone of BB, I'd really appreciate the pointers.

Blackbeard; Why not just buy a 5-pack of Black & Mild cigars and make your own extract? You can buy them in any Drug Store or 7-11 for less than $5 a five-pack, and five B&M cigars will make enough extract to flavor GALLONS of PG or VG.....you don't need much pure extract to flavor a juice.... I use cigar extracts all the time...they are great for adding body & "roundness" to other juices.

BTW, one caveat. If you use cigar of pipe tobacco extracts, don't use nicotine in your mix until you've tried it - the NETs leach out nicotine when you extract them, so no additional nic is usually required. You can always add more later if you need it..an additional cost saving because the nic juice is usually the most expensive component of most concoctions.

Have fun.

When extracting from cigars and tobacco.. I assume it also takes everything you don't want from them (essentially why we turned to vaping) - is it just because these are in such low quantities, or is it because we're not actually burning plant material or what? I would love to perform some tobacco extractions but I just fear pulling in all those nasty chemicals that made me quit smoking in the first place.
And also, yes, I agree and think it's pretty obvious his main base is an NET

No... NETs generally don't have all the "nasties" associated with cigarettes.... since you aren't burning vegetable matter, you aren't getting any tar, ash, or other gunk along with the flavoring.

Nicotine itself is not considered a carcinogen, just a stimulant. If you are getting anything other than flavor compounds & nicotine out of an extract, at least its orders-of-magnitude less than if you smoked it, if at all. The percentage of pure extract you use is highly diluted to boot. I produce about 50-70 ml of pure PG-based extract from an average Robusto-sized cigar (relatively small size)....I then use no more than 10% of that extract (usually less) in my juice, so it's a pretty small part of my recipes.....but adds a significant amount of body & flavor..

Great idea. I guess I'll go explore the methodology of extraction.

Not what I was hoping to hear, though, as I'm sure this is going to take some more time and money. But it's a start. I'm hoping someone will answer subver's questions also, since we're all trying to avoid the nasty stuff.

And while I was typing, subver's questions were answered. Thanks

Another thing I was wondering.. I never really ventured much into tobacco (I used to roll cigarettes but not for too long) - do they generally have the same crap that popular cigarette brands have?
Makes sense about the tiny tiny amount and the fact we vape and not burn - so that's good.

I'll have to try it, and I'll have to get a nicotine testing kit so I can see how much nic it pulls out!

I use the "Shot glass extraction" method, and it works great. all you need is some PG or VG, a shot glass, some cotton balls, a syringe, and a microwave. (works better with PG IMHO)

Also - quality cigars have NO additional chemicals added, nor do premium pipe tobaccos (the pure Burlys. virginias, etc). Cigarettes & "flavored" cigars, and pipe tobaccos are loaded with them to make them burn better... As long as you stick to pure-leaf cigars & pipe tobaccos, you're good, though even with flavored tobaccos, the percentages of junk you get in the extract in minimal at best.

Awesome - thanks for the link... the process kinda makes me uncomfortable for personal reasons (not really a huge deal) but I will find a way to try it.
I'd like to get a very strong flavor so I can use as little of it as possible - mainly so I don't gunk up my coils so fast! That was my main gripe with Boba's Bounty.. I'm sure it was the NET more so than the VG itself (I dunno, maybe I'm wrong?)
Either way.. I will take gunked coils and a perfectly delicious e-juice over mediocrity any day!

No-worries. I use a Carlos Fuente Chateu Fenete Sungrown extract as my go-to DIY at a 10% dilution in 100%VG with a few other flavorings....it doesn't gunk up my coils any more than Boba's (actually a lot less). In my RBAs with ceramic wicks and Ribbon Kanthal wire, a dry-burn after every-other tankful brings them back to perfect condition. I've been using the same wick/coil in some of them for over three months/ many many tankfuls and they still perform perfectly.

Awesome, exactly what I wanted to hear. I vape on Ithaka with silica wicks as well. With Boba's Bounty I could never dry burn to clean it.. it ALWAYS made it taste incredibly gross, but I could dry burn other juices. I'm sure that's another sure-fire sign of a lot of NET in it.. I don't think basic flavors do that!

And in a couple weeks (hopefully asap) I will have a TSAF+ for welding wires so making new coils will be so quick and easy.. very excited!

Just a clarification - I don't use the silica wicks (except in my rebuildable drippers), in my RBAs I use the hard porous ceramic wicks (either the FC2000 or ones I made myself from Top Fin bubblestones) They are much more robust when it comes to dry-burning...the silica wicks won't hold up as well, but are far-less fragile to set up. There are a couple of threads on these wicks in case you are interested..

Just something else to add to the mix....

Ah nice... maybe I could use them in my Genesis Line v2.. I don't think they'd work out well in Ithaka... MAYBE Odysseus if I could somehow attach wicks to the ends so they can go down the side channels. Interesting, though! Thanks for the links.

Got most of my supplies in the mail today. Very exciting! I made 2 batches each of SloHands #7 and #8, one regular and one with a drop of 5% AP just to try. I may have screwed up the #8 ratios a tiny bit but we will see how it tastes. Can't wait to try it! I'll have to build a new coil and test it later so I know how it tastes fresh, then test it in a week!
They both smell very good that's for sure

I disagree. I have used 8 different types of cured tobacco leaves from leafonly.com. I cold steeped them in a PG/VG base for greater than 3 months.

Now, these NET's have produced some very interesting and tobacco-y flavors and I'm having fun experimenting with using them as concentrates and adding other flavorings. What I don't know is exactly what chemicals have been leeched from these leaves into the liquid. I don't know exactly what I'm ingesting and absorbing when I vape them. That would require some expensive chemical analysis.

I have shared some of my NET's with friends and I have made it clear to them that I have no clue what exactly is in this juice. I explain this them and tell them to "use at your own risk". Are they less harmful than smoking tobacco? Almost certainly. Do I know exactly what my body is absorbing when I vape juice made from these NET's? Not really.

My :2c:

So I got all my stuff in today and made the #7 recipe...

I get a very strong cherry on the inhale, and a dry cherry on the exhale. The aftertaste is boba's. very close. But the rest of it is not.

It's not as sweet, nor does it have the depth of flavor. Anyone have any ideas on how to get that "richness"? Slowhand, thanks again for the work you put into this, very cool. I added a few drops of ethyl maltol to sweeten it up, but this really needs to steep a few days and then I'll try it again. As it stands now, I'll still need to buy boba's when it becomes available again. this wont 'feed the need'.

Hopefully we can get closer still. The after taste is definitely boba's so we're onto something :)

Has anyone experimented with SloHand #7 and a few drops of Acetyl Pyrazine? I intend to get some AP sooner or later and try it, but I'm wondering what you fine folk think.

Still stalking the mailman :(

@ BogeyJim. I've noticed big changes in #7 as it steeps.

Also has been pointed out I really think that more exploration is needed into some of the NET's. Mudflap mentioned 3 months(!) of steeping for extraction of some of his NET's. Might this explain some of Ben's supply issues? I just started on the NET's so this is going to take some time.

To be fair, I have no clue whether or not 3 months was necessary or overkill. I just let them soak that long on a whim and I'm too lazy to try the slow cooker method.

I've made a batch of #7 with a very tiny amount of AP - unfortunately I haven't tried it yet but I will report when I do!
