Practically everything that we eat or drink is bad for teeth. We can´t help it, citric acid, coffee, everything is bad for teeth. Go to a good dentist on a regular basis, use a gel based toothpaste (less abrasive than paste toothpaste), floss frecuently. Avoid whitening pastes and use a rebuilding toothpaste or a sensitive toothpaste a couple of times a year. The rest is genetics and a good dentist. Don´t blame it on one particular thing when everything is to blame.

I would have tried to bite my tongue, but I just couldn't keep from asking what motivated her to take take a class on E cigarettes? How could she even answer that..... I also may have asked what grade she got for the class? LOL

To make matters worse, she was an ex-smoker!! The way she chastised me, I would have thought she never smoked!

She's a class "A" idiot...!!! I've been vaping for almost 2 years and for me the evidence is obvious! Before I quit smoking, I use to get these two stains on my front teeth repeatedly. So often that I purchased a dentist style tooth polisher off the internet just because these stains would bother me so much.... well, Lets just say I have no Idea where that polisher is right now because I haven't seen it in about a year and 9 months... I haven't seen the stains either.....! I've definitely noticed since switching to vaping that its the least educated who seem to bark the loudest and preach the most!

My dentist thought it was cool. He gave me a high-five! Anything is better than smoking. He said a couple of his other patients quit the same way, and took some referral cards I had from the local vape shop to give out. BTW, he's a cutting edge kind of guy - probably the best in town.

ETA: I wonder how she feels about Nicorette (held against your gums all day) or the Nicotrol inhaler?

To keep a license active you must have Continuing Education Units, therefore, taking classes.

Been googling ...I am not coming up with anything...unless someone tossed it into a smoking effects class.

I was so excited going in to see my dentist because I hadn't touched a cigarette in a whole week!! The dental assistant crushed my little vaping heart when she told me vaping was not one iota better than smoking cigarettes and then proceeded to give me a long lecture about how terrible my habit was. She even claimed to have taken a class on electronic cigarettes!

Thanks to all the members here for pointing me to all kinds of studies and information about vaping. So glad I did not let her get to me! She should get a refund on the "class" she took. Where in the world did she find all her erroneous information?

Sounds like a educated Dumb ...

One more... (I've had a crappy day and revenge fantasies cheer me up). Perhaps you could write a note to your dentist and express how discouraged you felt after hearing her dismissive comments. He should appreciate the effort you are making to stop smoking.

You could even cite the Boston University School of Public Health study, the published opinions by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, and the opinion of the American Association of Public Health Physicians [In support of e-cig use by adult smokers] "...because the possibility exists to save the lives of four million of the eight million current adult American smokers who will otherwise die of a tobacco-related illness over the next twenty years." (Thanks Wikipedia for the summary, but links to the actual studies are on the same page.)

It gets worse with doctors. If you didn't go to medical school too, well there's just no reasoning with them. I brought up some studies related to an experimental injection I wanted to try (botox for nerve compression), including mentioning that my pain management guys do it AND my peripheral neurosurgeon in NJ recommended it, and my PCP actually told me "Shush." Sigh.

I have learned that it's best to arm yourself with information. So many vendors give out little wallet sized cards with their orders. I have also started compiling studies when it comes to ST and LT effects of vaping. I started that when my mother came running down the stairs with the local news in her hand with some article about how eCigs affect lung resistance. I'm like, "Mom, that's how lungs work! Everything you inhale will have an effect on resistance." But I never went to med school (bro did) and I deal with the medical profession every day (as a patient living with a major illness lol). I learned the hard way to do my research, and if doctors were not open to my suggestions (based on medical journal research etc). then it was time to find another doctor.

The worst thing about my vaping is the fact that yes, nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, but I have managed to dial it back to 6mg - 12mg already, from 12mg - 18mg. It's a psychological stress reliever for me. I have no desire to quit, but I'm so glad I don't smell like smoke anymore; I was so fearful of a nurse doing a sniff-check.

Oh Dear God! Don't do that! Just imagine what she'd have to say to the next vaper that happens by!

I almost had a heart attack laughing at the answers in this thread. Thank you guys for all your support.

This happened my first week of vaping; I am now 54 days cigarette free!

She's just upset because she's only a dentist assistant. Dentist and dentist assistants don't know squat. Dentist are highly over paid in my opinion. I had bad tooth pain a couple months ago and they wanted to give me extra strength iburprofen. I said to him I can't take that because I have GERD. I even said that's in my file didn't you see that. He said oh, we'll give you Motrin then. Well I didn't know what that was and before I got the script filled I googled it and Motrin is just a brand name for iburprofen. What dumb :censored:
