That's so cool that you got an actual NOTE from your doc encouraging it. :)

My doc condoned me switching to vaping as well. I was demonstrating symptoms of COPD. Persistent congested cough, constant bronchitis and bouts of pneumonia, and finally I ended up with a completely obstructed left lung and severe pain and swelling in my left side. I asked him if he thought it would be a good idea for me to try vaping instead of smoking since I had tried all the FDA approved methods of quitting and still failed, and I got the green light from him. He reasoned that at that point vaping was a lot better for my lungs than smoking, and something needed to be done immediately to improve my lung function.

And all those symptoms disappeared. I've got 100% healthy lung function now... in BOTH lungs. If I had tried to quit any other way, I may have not been so lucky and ended up on medication due to how long it would have taken me to be successful... or on my way to a slow and painful early demise if I had continued to fail.

Vaping isn't just an alternative to smoking or an alternative way to quit. It can actually be LIFE SAVING in emergency situations like what I was experiencing. Which is why it needs to continue to be available over the counter to adults!

It is so great to see someone else's doc has seen the light and that someone else has had the experience of vaping saving their life. Let's just hope the government follows suit.

This is the kind of testimony doctors and the FDA really need to look at. They say everything "we" say about vaping is anecdotal but there are thousands of us saying it. We have stopped smoking, we are healthier and our lives have improved because of this. Just because of the numbers, I don't agree with this. However, cases like this are really what need looked at. A 100% turn around in health that proves vaping is not smoking with medical records to back up the claim. In xjonquilx it has helped them more then most in the short term, but if vaping can help like that... What will it help us with? No tar, no carbon monoxide and according to the recent results, 1000x less exposure to carcinogens.

I was having a big problem with a family member who still thinks vaping is the same as smoking or using tobacco. I mentioned this to my cardiologist. He left the exam room and returned with the following note for me (slightly edited):

To Whom it May Concern:

During their use, both her cardiac and lung functions have continued to improve and I have advised her that she may continue to use them for as long as she chooses.
Sincerely,
Dr. X

Congrats on your improving health! It feels really good to know that vaping really does improve heart and lung functions especially to hear it from a doctor.

Don't forget to follow the good doctor's orders! ;)

I have been asking my doctor and dentist to make their voices heard on the matter of ecigs, and, since this can save untold thousands of lives, to please come down in favor of the people' s best interests (as opposed to the best interests of the medical community, Big Pharma and Big Tobacco).

Greetings from another fellow (Sacramentin, Sacramentite?) person from Sacramento. LOL! I had finally talked to my family Dr. the other day and told him what I was up to as well. He said congratulations and told me ecigs were perfectly fine. He then told me to let him know if I needed any additional help. I just thought to myself, sure doc, can ya write me a script for some free e-juice? :D

I have struggled with quitting for 20+ years. Would quit for months, once 1 1/2 years!! but always ended up back on. Dr was very displeased with me (to say the least). This year when I went for my annual physical I told him "I finally quit and will never go back. I am vaping". He just looked at me, smiled and said "That is wonderful"! Made me feel good, and I am confident I will never go back to that nasty stuff. Friends I see still smoking I pull out my PV and say "You need to try this" puff puff. Several have said they will look into it and a few have joined me! :vapor:

That's fantastic! Hope there's more drs like Dr.x :)

My partner had found vaping is making her cough more. She first tried cinnamon and realized that was no good. Stayed away from vaping for a while and just the other day tried to go back we got a 50/50 pg/VG mix she did very little over the past couple of days dripping on a Atty and she started to cough again last night.

Anyone else with this experience? Will a 30/70 pg/VG mix work better? Or I been thinking a higher resistance Atty.

Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated!

Non-expert advice warning.

Nicotine irritates the throat (which is what gives the throat hit sensation). If she didn't vape for a while and came back to the same strength of nicotine, that could easily cause coughing.

VG causes some people to get phlegmy and that could also cause coughing. Switching to a higher VG mix may not be the answer (who knows?)

I would try to eliminate as many possible causes as you can and work up from there. You can get USP vegetable glycerine from a pharmacy (cheap - people here recommend Humco brand). Cut it it with about 15% distilled or demineralized water. If there's no coughing then you can be fairly sure that VG is not the problem. Then you can try a low nicotine level to see if she can tolerate it - if you don't have a low nicotine level liquid, cut it with the VG. Obviously, don't use any potentially irritating flavours like cinnamon.

Not a medical advice just my personal experience.
I started with 50/50 PG and 12 mg nic. I was experiencing a lot of cough and "tender lungs" , switched to VG only and
aside of a some phlegm all my other problems pretty much went away.
Make my own juices but when I vape already made juice I chose highest concentration of VG and works for me because I found Pg irritating my throat and lungs.
Regarding the higher ohm... depends on what you use for battery, if you have a variable voltage device it's won't make much of a difference
because you can adapt the voltage to whatever resistance you have on. There is a graph around ECF showing you what to set for each resistance use that for guidance and tweak based on taste of vapor you get.

Hope it helps
