Hi guys,

I want to start out by thanking those that have provided some excellent advice. This forum has top notch members!

I have had my Ultrasonic Cleaner for about a week now. I have made a couple batches prior to finding out about the UC. I was hopeful that using it would bring the mix close to being ready to vape (RTV).

I think its pretty much accepted that the ejuice needs time to mature. This occurs naturally just by letting it sit in a cool, dark place. Some have used various methods on how to accelerate the process.

  • Breathing: Leaving the cap off will allow for alcohol (some flavors have it) to evaporate but may allow contaminants in. I do not have enough patience to wait a week for my concoction to be RTV so this option is off the table.
  • Heat: Microwaving or giving the bottles a warm bath promote bonding. I have tried both ways and I believe that it helped. The batches that I made were decent after a bout 4-5 days.
  • Ultrasonic Mixing: Utilizes the use of a Ultrasonic Jewelry cleaner. I fill my UC with hot water and will run it for several cycles. I am sill experimenting with how long it needs to run. See page 6 of the attached PDF that describes what happens.
how uc works.jpg

A couple days ago I made a batch of juice and when it was done, i put it in the UC for over an hour. It was definitely much better than before i did it. It still took a couple days after to be RTV.

Tonight, once i got the flavor right, i made a 10ML test bottle.

Prior to adding the PG and VG to my flavor mix, i put it in the UC for about 8 minutes. I think that helped out, PG and VG especially can be a little thick.

I shook the bottle and then put it in the UC for another 8 minutes. When it was done, the liquid seems fully mixed and has a good consistency.

Note: I prefer using glass bottles, as it will not melt and has a good endothermic reaction. I used a plastic bottle in this experiment. The results were good but I did not like how bottle floated around. Glass bottles sit in the basket and I feel that contact agitates the contents better than the plastic.

** MY CONCLUSION **

Ultrasonic mixing shortens the amount of steep time to have an ejuice RTV. One step further by running the PG/VG in the UC was before adding the flavoring and nicotine was effective.

This is a work in progress and I am open to your thoughts.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

  • I believe this is a misnomer. Yes, leaving the bottle open will allow alcohol present to evaporate. It will also allow volatile flavor compounds to evaporate. Depending upon what final result you're after, this may or may not be a good thing. The "melding" of flavors you mention doesn't occur at an accelerated rate if left uncapped. Leaving a bottle uncapped will also accelerate the rate of oxidation, which also may or may not be a good thing, depending upon what you're trying to achieve.
