My rant for the day..
Why do politicians from all over the world turn there nose up at vaping? Trying their hardest to ban it and tax it all over the world.
Yet in England go to the doctors and they give you free prescriptions to take anti smoking pills, patches or gum. And the news tonight a trial in Scotland was successful in paying pregnant women to pack in smoking while pregnant. Yes paying them. 600 women took part and were given £50 shopping vouching at the start. If they proved to be still off the fags at 4 weeks, another £50 voucher, again at 12 weeks a £100 voucher and when they gave birth another £200 voucher.
That's right £400 to pack in smoking for 40 weeks but us they want to penalise anyway possible.:mad::mad:

Well in the U.S., it's simple. The government sees it as a way to make more money. Plain and simple. They can claim dangers all they want but really, it's all about the $$.

And they aren't happy about the money they aren't making off of us yet. Yet.

Yeah... That's about the Long and the Short of it.

Only 2 Problems with the Statement below from that Link...

... Increased tobacco taxes are a win-win-win solution for New Mexico – a health win that will reduce tobacco use and save lives, a financial win that will help to balance the state budget and fund essential programs ...

It hasn't been Shown that Increasing Cigarette Taxes saves Lives.

And second, there is No Guarantee that these New Tax Revues will go to "Kid" related Programs. And have a Way of being Looted for Other Programs.

okayyyyy... they tax ciggies to increase the chances to keep people from starting to smoke and entice others to quit... if thats the intent of the state, why not just increase the tax to 10$ a pack??? make it soooo unafordable .... no one will smoke.... isnt that what they want?? or they increase taxes and make money cuz people can still somewhat afford them.... selective taxation.... seems unconstitutional...

I agree that it is mostly about money. But... The FDA has nothing to do with taxation. Vapers fought to have our products labeled as tobacco, and NOT as a pharmaceutical, which the FDA would have absolute control over. This was definitely the better solution. Second, as of now, all of the taxation proposals you are seeing are coming from state government, and are not coming at a federal level. In the link below is a handy map that shows you current tobacco tax rates per pack by state. (cigarettes, not vape) As you can see, the state taxes are more often than not DOUBLE the federal tax rate, or even more. I just point this out because it seems we like to point our fingers at the Federal government, while largely ignoring those close to home that we probably have more influence over.

It's not just about money. It's about power. And the fact that they know better than you silly ignorant masses.
I believe 2 things about the government.
1. The things they do behind closed doors would disgust you.
2. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. -Thomas Jefferson

I read a news article on my home page yesterday about new State vaping laws which had a hilarious typo. One of the things they are trying to protect the kids from is the accidental ingestion of liquid nitrogen.

    :laugh::laugh::laugh:

edit: actually, it's probably not a typo. the article probably had something to do with at least 'child-proofing' e-liquid bottles, to prevent them from 'accidentally' drinking the juice.

oh cheese, I just reread the quote. I see the typo/wrong word (nitrogen) plainly now.

You would be amazed if you knew how far you could get with a few 100 mil for bribes... If i told you to make a few typo's at work and waved 10mil infront of you, you would most likely reply "what font would you like?"

Now if i waved 100mil and asked you to make a paper/file disappear... Wouldnt you ask "fire or water damage?"... Most people would... And the tobacco and pharma industries has a whole lot of money and alot more to lose

Until we the people stop looking at government as a be all, end all to all our problems, we will continue to get what we deserve. Point being, every time something happens the first reaction heard is "there ought to be a law against that." Well they give us a new law which is a negative freedom.

Our founders would be ashamed of us today as we allow this government to control our lives.I would recommend everyone in the US to watch the three part mini series that just aired on History Channel "Sons of Liberty." There is a lot of stuff that went on in that time that parallel today. The difference was in that time they had no rights as they were just Colonists; not having any representation in England or here at home. They rose up against unjust taxation and laws. They gave us a government of We the People not we the subjects of an overbearing government.

Somehow over the years we gave up on that and gave power to those that would control us. Just look at how many Senators, Congresspeople, and people in government on the state or local levels have been in power for 20+ years. These people want nothing more than power (which equals money in many cases) and would be better known as the ruling class. However, we were not meant to have a ruling class. So until we the people take power back, we get what we deserve.

Also... by demonizing vaping, they can *delay* more smokers switching until they've figured out how to switch the tax base from finished tobacco products to the tobacco crop itself -- we still need tobacco since it's the richest source of nicotine, but right now the tax base rests on cigarettes instead of raw tobacco. Once they figure out how to shift the burden of tax to the crop, suddenly they'll be all over how much better vaping is than smoking.
