I have had perfectly good working cell phones go thermal and arc inside the housing causing extensive damage.
Let alone strict rulings of transporting batteries from the NTSB.

Sorry mythbusters can say they are safe all they like, I have had several phones and batteries melt into a puddle near or in my hand. I do NOT trust phones others bring to me not to be filled with forgien material and or damaged batteries and contacts. Excessive scorching, heat and spark production on badly cared for personal devices is rampant.

And laptop batteries have been known to explode, too. Is anyone saying you shouldn't use a laptop at a gas station?

This isn't about whether a battery can malfunction and cause a fire, it can, and not just cell phones but any type, and not only at a gas station, but anywhere.

That's irrelevant to whether it's safe to use a normally working cell phone near the pumps. It is. Static electricity is the real danger.

Personally, I get really worried about another battery nearby every time I fill up my gas tank. It's this really big lead-acid 12v battery that every vehicle seems to have. I'm thinking about taking the battery out of my car and moving it a safe 50 feet away every time I fill up, just in case.

I am an apprentice pyrotechnician and on my last show down in Huntsville, I wasn't brave enough to use an e-cig while wiring mortars. You can do everything right and still have something go wrong so it is not worth the risk. If one of the nice firefighters that monitor the set up came by and saw an ecig hanging out of my mouth across the field, well he would have had a heart attack before I could have explained it to him.. so yeah, I think I found a situation where vaping is a bad idea, LOL!

Thanks for sharing your response to people's inquiries. I will be using this same basic tactic in the future. I need to request with my next order from the fine ladies at cignot that they send me a stack of business cards to hand out to people that ask where I got my 510, too.

I'd love to see the next pyrotechnics show you help put together if it's in the DFW area. Love of fire is part of what got me started on analogs in the first place...

I've been stopped a several times now while vaping in public. The best response I have found to use is goes something like this:

Offended person: ARE YOU SMOKING IN HERE?!?!?!

Calm me: "It's not a cigarette, it is a replacement, a fake one I am using to quit smoking." (takes cartomizer off) "see there is no tobacco and no fire, it's not real, it's just a vaporizer and it helped me quit smoking tobacco."

Response "Cool! Where can I get one for ______?" (me, my mother-in-law, my son, my Aunt Millie)

This seems to work much better than pretending to put my Vapor King out on my 11 year old's forehead. Gotta say, putting it out on my kid's forehead is fun, tho.

LMAOOOOOO! I can just see the offended person's respond "OH MY GOD YOU TERRIBLE MOTHER YOUR BURNING YOUR...... why isn't your kid burnt"
