I am in a unique position with my Blu kit. Nhaler was offering an L88 as a toss in, if I bought $100 worth of juice. The juice was on sale for 25% off, so mine was essentially free with a super deal on some great juice. I had a 901, 801, 510 and 401 already, but getting it was a no brainer.
While the L88 doesn't blow my mind, it HAS exceeded my expectations. The little PCC is VERY handy, and well designed. It can carry a fully assembled L88 while it is charging a second battery. The L88 is very small, and feels nice in your hand. I am quite happy to have the L88 in my toolbox, and it's a great unit to take along on a picnic or a hike in the woods.
As for the cartridges, since it's an exposed atty, it has the same problem that all exposed attys have,,, and that is contact between the wicking material and the atty, and without good contact, the juice won't flow, and won't create vapor. A solution to this it to stick a paperclip through the little hole the smoke comes out and push the little inside container until it makes contact with the attomizer.
That said, an exposed atty is great for dripping directly to the atty or dipping into a little pool in a contact lense case.
Also, I've found something interesting. The L88 atty is a perfect fit for a 510, and can serve as an exposed atty alternative for any of your 510 stuff.
What I would say makes the L88 a valued piece for my toolbox is the exposed atty, the small size, the well designed PCC, and it's compatability with the 510.
On the wish list would be for the PCC case to be made of metal, as it would be more robust.
Just a few of my thoughts on the L88.
