They are intensely investigating e-cigarette juice, as you all know, so they can regulate it. However, some of our quality net vendors took diacetyl out a while back...... so continues the assault on e-cigarettes.

Note: This story originally appeared on NBC News.

Makers of e-cigarettes claim their products are far safer than burnt tobacco products, but a study published Tuesday shows that may not always be true.

The flavorings that make vaping so appealing are made using chemicals that can severely damage the lungs, a team at the Harvard School of Public Health found.

Most common was diacetyl, the chemical blamed for causing "Popcorn lung" in workers at microwave popcorn packaging plants.

"We selected 51 types of flavored e-cigarettes sold by leading e-cigarette brands and flavors we deemed were appealing to youth," researcher Joseph Allen and colleagues wrote in their report, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

"At least one flavoring chemical was detected in 47 of 51 unique flavors tested. Diacetyl was detected above the laboratory limit of detection 39 of the 51 flavors tested," they added.

These flavors included Cupcake, Fruit Squirts, Waikiki Watermelon, Cotton Candy, Tutti Frutti, Double Apple Hookah, Blue Water Punch, Oatmeal Cookie and Alien Blood, the researchers said.

They also found chemicals called 2,3-pentanedione, also known as acetylpropionyl, and acetoin in many of the flavorings. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has found 2,3 pentanedione can cause lung and brain damage in rats.

Diacetyl, a component of artificial butter flavoring, can cause a condition known as lymphocytic bronchiolitis, which in turn can lead to obliterative bronchiolitis — or "popcorn lung".

It's a rare but debilitating disease that causes vague symptoms such as cough and shortness of breath, and steadily worsens, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Acetoin is also used in cigarettes and it's also linked with "popcorn lung".

The four biggest makers of microwave popcorn have removed the chemicalsfrom butter flavorings after the discovery that it could be causing lung problems in workers, and in at least one consumer successfully sued, saying he developed the condition after eating microwave popcorn daily.

So it's troubling to see it in e-cigarettes, says Dr. Gina Lundberg, a heart specialist at Emory University and a spokesperson for the American Heart Association.

"Bronchiolitis obliterans is a horrible disease and nobody wants it," said Lundberg, who was not involved in the study.

Other studies have found e-cigarettes can deliver formaldehyde and government data shows an increasing number of teenagers are checking out vaping.

"I really think it's important to find out whether it's safe," said Lundberg, who added that she regularly debates with a close relative who vapes and who defends it as a safe alternative to smoking.

"I am surprised how many people in the 45 to 55 category are vaping," Lundberg added. "I have friends who are nurses and doctors that are doing it, and there is really this perception that it's fine."

Lundberg agrees that e-cigarettes can help people stop smoking, but she says many of her patients continue to use e-cigarettes after kicking the habit, and often use flavors that contain nicotine, the addictive and dangerous chemical found in combustible tobacco.

She says vapers should check the labels carefully. But the Harvard team says the labels do not always disclose everything that's in the product.

"Two companies explicitly stated that their products do not contain diacetyl in written communication, yet in our testing we did find diacetyl in their product," they said.

The Food and Drug Administration plans to regulate e-cigarettes.

In preparation of my next batch of,jices from net.com, as some of you know, I have entered the dark labyrinth of rebuildabLe atomisers. What follows are my first tentative steps...

Bought some precision screwdrivers today, so am currently 'rocking' the kayfun lite plus with my first build.

Cheated a bit as a couple of prebuilt colts I ordered arrived. Not too much of an issue getting the coil centred and connected to the pins.

First off tried wicking with 2mm ekowool doubled up, coil is 3mm diameter, not a hope! Pondered just a single run, but realised it would be too loose.

Next up the cellucotton (100% rayon). Got it wicked ok. Vape was low vapour and not improving. Too much play, not a thick enough wick. Good flavour on first few hits which quickly went.

Out with the kayfil tool (I have been shopping...). Managed not to flood the house with e-juice. Wick had signs of burning.

Did my first dry burn whilst realigning the coil.

rewicked with cellucotton. Similar or vape. This time it was too thick, removing it put the coil all outta shape.

So though let's try the cotton bacon v2. Think I got the thickness right this time, maybe just a tad thick.

vape is much better. Can taste the juice. On a 1.7 coil, was 1.8 when I first installed.Reasonable vapour at 8.5 watts, just trying 10 watts now.

Have to say less vapour than the Gs tank though, mind you I run that at 14 watts with 1.2 coils currently.

Some throat hit on this thing. Less flavour for now than than the gs - i suspect and hope that is down to my inexperience/ current level of incompetence with coiling and wicking.

One of the final coils didn't burn red (though heat goes from centre outwards) when testing coil before installing wick, the leg from final coil leg to screw got bent during lifting off deck, kanthal has a kink in it, as a result this coil is taller than others.

Getting better at 10 watts, more vapour and flavoir. Not sure if I can push a 1.8 in this as high as on a Nautilus, it is a horizontal and not a vertical coil.

Thing is built like a Russian or German tank, heavy and solid. Airflow screw a pain but I will likely leave it fully open? Actually like the screw for filling and can get to deck and refill via kayfil tool.

So gs still rules but for how long?

Oh finally the vape has a slight watery quality too it, I know the juice very well and this is not there usually. Odd. Using El puros @ 10mg.

I want to buy some new juices from net.com. I have tried a lot of them and at the moment i like most the smoked latakia, because the flavour is very good and its strong enough to vape it by drinking coffee.

Do someone know, from which company the smoked latakia tobacco is ?

What is the strongest net from net.com ? I know the dark fired, the latakia, the french and the cigar nets. Is there anything which is stronger as the latakia ?

And another reminder from CASAA:

Last chance to participate in the CASAA E-Cigarette Survey - 2015. We need everyone who hasn't voted to PLEASE take the survey. Your voice counts!

We’ve added a few thousand new CASAA members and we want to make sure we’ve contacted everyone about this opportunity. We’re taking responses to our survey until 12:00 PM (EST) on Saturday, December 12th. After that, we’ll need to focus on preparing the data to present to OMB/OIRA next week.

Just ordered the Total Eclipse to try. Thanks. We're both in Austin. We ought to meet for coffee and vape some day.

The descriptions don't really tell you anything about them , have no clue whats good or not .

Roll the dice, baby. They often don't taste like the write-up anyways... Check the reviews tab for some user feedback, too.

Everyone have a great weekend!

I don't think you're gonna find anything in Clay's line up that is as strong and bold as his Latakia. Bombay, Balkan and E=mc2 are up there though.
If you're really enjoying the Latakia, you should do yourself a favor and get yourself a bottle of London Blend from Want2Vape... I would dare to say that is the liquid that started it all in the NET game as far as bold, smoky flavors are concerned.
London Blend
I'm one of Clay's biggest supporter and advocate, my $300 order just arrived last week, but I still have a soft spot for London Blend!

Just a warning... London Blend is probably the quickest gunker of wicks, but it's well worth it.

Just place an order with EV. Really intrigued with Captain Jack as it is dark fired Burley with Caribbean rum. The other new one, Wicked sounds good as well: toasted Virginia Cavendish with Amaretto, light chocolate, and vanilla cream. They sound more complex then the usual. Looking forward to them plus a few old faithfuls. Black and Mild, Bayou Brew Perique, and Bali Nights. 30% off plus free shipping, gotta love it :vapor:

OK, ladies and gentlemen, I just received my first order from NET, based on your recommendations.
I've got this:

Fire-cured Burley
Big Spirit
NS Brown
NS Dark
Organic Spirit
Speaking Spirit
Big Spirit
Smoked Latakia

Where do I start? When I still smoked, I liked Marlboro Lights, now I enjoyed Black Note e-liquids and I still indulge with the occasional cigar when I play golf.
So? Where do you think I should start with my NET tasting?

Try the spirits first, they are not to strong for little fogmusts :)

Be careful with the latakia, its only for strong men ! :w00t:

LOL... Fogmust is a tough dude. But anyway, I'll go with the spirits. This thing never fails - as soon as I get vapemail, I start chain vaping whatever is left in one of my tanks to get to the new juice. Can't wait.

One more reason to ditch the tank and start dripping. ;)

I only now the big spirit. Fresh it was to mild for me, but marlboro lights are very mild too. I liked it after 2 months steeping. I have got all juices from net.com 3-5 weeks after my orders because i live in germany. Waiting makes me crazy but the juice are steeped a little bit.

Are there big differences between the spirits ?

Steeping is a crazy thing. I have bought some patriot from GEJ months ago and i dont liked them very much, tooooo mild. Now they are very smoky, cant believe. We must find a thing to shorten the steeping. Perhaps a little time machine ?

I'm trying hard to turn my subtank mini into a decent MTL tank by switching the drip tip to a narrower throat tip and replacing my V2 RBA with the V1 RBA with the narrow channels at the bottom. I vape 70pg/20 vg 18mg Nic at around 10 to 12w. Still in the trial stage...

Just trying a new dript on the subtank nano, prebuilt 1.2 coil...

ST057 DRIP TIP - Delrin

Got the Delrin version and it is fantastic. Not huge throat hit with 50/50 but nice mtl. Beats other dript tips by combining long with wide at mouth. Bought it on a whim and after trying on a Gs air m thought that will work nicely in the subtank!

And nicely it does work. Lots of vapour mind, considerably more than most mtl tanks.
