She might be skimming before the extract is filtered. You know when your extracting, before you stir the tobacco each day, it's clear on top and the tobacco is sitting on the bottom. After a month or so, when your ready to filter, you skim this clear liquid of the top with suction. Then you squeeze the tobacco that's left into a different container. This second batch is filtered several times and then combined with the skimmed batch. Then it's filtered again.

That's how it's done for home extraction. I'm sure Diane has a more professional method.

BTW. This home method may help with gunking coils. IDK. Never really made a comparison.

Boomer,

Our experience may be different. I'm not sure what you mean by "clear." Clear could imply transparent or it could mean colorless.

I do mostly heat-assisted macerations. I tried a cold maceration twice, but waiting a month made me crazy. In both methods, however, the base liquid in my macerations turns a dark color very quickly. It's still transparent, but dark. With the cold macerations I did, acquiring color took a couple days. Right now, I've got four sealed maceration jars sitting in a water bath in a big pot, with the water just below a simmer. I started the process two hours ago, and the liquid in each jar is already very dark. I'll let the macerations "cook" for 12-24 hours, but even if I skimmed off the top liquid right now, it would still be a dark-colored (deep auburn or brown) transparency. So how does Diane keep her extracts so pale in color that they're almost colorless?

Also, I don't stir my macerations. I'm not suggesting that one should or shouldn't stir up the tobacco in a maceration, just that I don't. Since it's soaking in a liquid, the tobacco---which is fine-cut to start with---seems likely to undergo at least some disintegration of the plant leaf's cell structure. What I want in the macerated liquid are the soluble flavor components within the cells, not the cellulose debris from disintegrating cell walls, right? So, I try not to do anything mechanical that would increase the amount of fine or even microscopic particulates in suspension. My common-sense view has always been that "disturbing" the tobacco by stirring it would tend to do that.

Your mileage may vary, however, or you may know lots more about the science (i.e., the chemistry and physics) of the extraction process than I do.

I brought up our conversation about MVJ in the official chat thread.

There was some decent discussion of MY Vape Juice in the natural tobacco thread last night. It seems Yimee's extraction method for cigar's is a brain teaser for the aficionados over there. It was the cause of a bit of speculation. She also gets a lot of credit for the leaps in quality she made when bringing out the cigar line.
Natural Tobaccos - Part Deux

Yimee, do you use the newer extraction and filtering process on the old flavor lines these days? I want to try some of the non-cigar stuff, but talk of floaties and such is a little off putting. That may be worth addressing here and in the other thread.

Diane responded.
With regards to the NETS....There is/was some confusion regarding the whole floatie thing...I believe I was confused with another vendor. Either way it is a mute point as my new methods are far superior than the old ones ...as with anything else there was a learning curve and new technology makes this an ever changing marketplace. I can tell you however that I have not used any added chemicals to extract or filter these new flavors. I believe in the less is more theory in vaping and strive to eliminate any unnecessary chemicals. colorants or additives. This is such a new ever changing industry that what you thought was the bomb diggity today is just ok tomorrow. My current NETS are good solid single leaf extractions which are not complex but tasty. If you like these ( and many people do......) You are going to LOVE what is to come!

I will be rereleasing SOME and just a few of my established NETS in the new format. I can tell you however that I have a bunch and I mean a BUNCH of new NETS that will be released within a month or so. These are more complex blends and are far superior to anything I have released to date other than the cigars.

I just thought I would bring the good news.

Man, she's got a BUNCH (capital letters) of NETs coming soon. That woman doesn't sleep! I remember after the My Hero line was released how quickly a bunch of other NETs kept popping up on her site. Along with adding a steeped to perfection and an all VG lines.

I've had the three My Heros. Mine didn't have any floaty things, but were pretty dark in color. I liked them, Vanilla was my favorite. The tobacco was kind of one-note, being a bassy low flavor. No complexities, but enjoyable for me.

Mike,

"Floaties" was never an issue with any MVJ NETs, whether juices or extracts. The thing about "floaties" came up on the thread concerning the severe separation in VirginVapor's single "NET," which was a TA-based liquid that became the object of much mockery (with good reason...).

Even Diane's very first NETs at MVJ never suffered from any visible particulates. They were, as Jerms notes, extremely dark and a bit one-dimensional in flavor and impact. As Diane wrote, she went through a learning process and, over time, refined her techniques and skills. Bravo. She's the James Brown of NETs (i.e., "the hardest working man in show business," which makes her "the hardest working woman in the NET biz." LOL.)

For whatever it's worth, I never considered the possibility that Diane was using solvents in her cigar extractions or filtering, so it comes as no surprise to me that she's not. While I'm not a complete fanatic when it comes to "natural" and/or "organic," I do lean in that direction, and my personal communications with Diane left me feeling that she does too. I assume that she has a common-sense attitude in her business model toward keeping things as simple and natural as possible.

I'll look forward to the coming release of Diane's new NET blends. I was among her earliest supporters, and I would be thrilled to see Diane shoot to the very top rungs of the retail NET world.

They have to get some review or some serious NETizen buzz for me to bump them to the top of my list of vendors right now. I have a lot of juice and MOV has waited a YEAR to be next in line.

I'm certain Jay will send some to Smokie901 (ModEnvy), so watch his Youtube channel for the posting. Nirvana used to have a show on Nova Broadcasting, and he mentioned some more tobaccos, or maybe even NETs, back late last year. Seeing how Fancee Juice/JDVaporco never released theirs, I believed Nirvana less, since they only had 1 tobacco in their whole lineup (the aforementioned Tantric Tobacco).

Overall, Nirvana's line is well-reviewed, so hopefully the NETs turned out well and, perhaps, are worthwhile.

You beat me this time billherbst! Diane is really an amazing person who has somehow continuously created and improved her NETs. I wish all the NET vendors would do as much so I could justify buying them again (yes, that means you Want2Vape).

Whoa. I am amazed that no one else here had the "floaties." I don't think I have any of those liquids left, but man, they had visible sediment (distinguished from the separation of ingredients with the train wreck that was "The Best Damn Tobacco" -- here's when I first wrote about it: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo.../274904-natural-tobaccos-274.html#post9629894). I still vaped them and rather liked them considering the lack of adequate filtration. Either which way, it's water under the bridge as that seems to have been washed away (and apparently wasn't experienced by all). As I felt back then, I do now -- for some reason or another (maybe it's the passion?), I will always be pulling for her! I will be trying her new line and am going into it with as open of a mind as I generally would.

Is WICKED WENCH the Janis to Devil Dog!'s "Pigpen?"

Oh, I wish it were.

One of the odd qualities of MVJ's initial run of NET offerings is that the names were brilliant. The names and descriptions made the NETs sound terrific. In my opinion, though, the juices/extracts didn't live up to the expectations created by the names.

If Diane reformulates the extractions of that earlier line of NETs (including My Hero, Savage, Rogue, Country Squire, and Wicked Wench) to use whatever methods she uses to produce her cigar extracts, then I'd love to try the new versions of those older NETs. If she's continuing to sell off old stock, however, I'd advise passing on those and waiting for her new line to come out in a month.

Mr.M,

OK, I stand corrected. I'd forgotten that you got some NET juice from MyVapeJuice that had visible sediment. More brain damage on my part.

After reading the page of last year's posts you linked, I feel compelled to soften if not retract some of my previous comments of the past couple days. MVJ's initial line of NETs weren't bad. The juices and extracts I acquired from that initial production had no visible sediment, unlike Mr.M's bottle(s). And I did vape them for quite awhile---some months, in fact. It's just that new retail NETs kept appearing that were better---tastier, cleaner, crisper, and more complex.

Happily though, Diane kept at it, made some breakthroughs, and is now producing NETs that are impressive on the "sit up and take notice" scale.

That was my experience as well. I enjoyed the My Heros for a bit, and got excited seeing the newer offerings that were added. Wicked Wench especially got me pumped based on the description. But so many other new NET options were popping up that grabbed my interest more, so MV'Js NETs after My Hero remained on my "to order" list but kept getting passed over. Eventually I just crossed them off because of the tepid reactions of them here.

Like others said, I really want to see MVJ become an important NET vendor because Diane's so easy to root for. The site is fantastic and it's obvious she puts a lot of work into what she's doing.

Going back through the old thread is crazy. There's just so much to it! One thing I will never forget though is when VV's "NET" hit the scene. That was memorable for the all the wrong reasons! LOL
