I'd like to resurrect this very funny post by Big Juicy in part one of this thread.....

"A somewhat epic vape night for me...at the very least one if the more memorable ones.

Ravyn - I...I...just don't know what to say. I read most of the thread, I asked around. This ain't unicorn milk...maybe dragon milk? This is obviously sufficiently steeped at this point. First scent and few puffs I got a berry element. Then it was clearly pushed back by that mystery funk Ravyn is famous for. The odd thing to me was that the mystery flavor bound and finished this juice. Was this by design? If this flavor was way out front pre-steep...say, like the Latakia spice element is in fresh DD...then I get how people were disgusted by this. Here it was blended somewhat. Then as I vaped it I didn't get the components at all but a whole one note, one flavor. What IS this. I know I have tasted not the parts but this exact flavor before. I was thinking it was decent, but not for me. I had a quick vision of my hippie days smoking something when we were out of weed...colored papers...what...vision disappeared. Then the bad thing came. I chain vaped it til I for sick and I simply couldn't place the taste. Burley and maybe a berry shisha? Is there some sandalwood or pachouli involved? Is the funk simply perique not playing nice with others? I was so close too. Then I got home and it compromised my Chinese food. I don't know if it shared an ingredient with orange chicken or if the orange chicken somehow activated what lingered on my palate, but it was not pleasant. I give up, I ain't taking another puff of this. Later I vaped some burley and then some latakias...and I don't know. All I know is that there is some Latakia in there. And I know they went for SOME taste that exists that I have had before and it was from my hippie days. F!!! I jut almost remembered again, but no....maybe. It was some kind of rolled smoke, from another country...oh ...., I got it just this minute AS I TYPE!!!!!!!!!! BIDI's!!!! He crap one smoke like 20 years ago. Ravyn is bidi's. I have blown my own mind.

Beedi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rest of my epic night later...I need to trip out now and then rest my circuits"

BEEDI?! He seriously got beedi from Rayvn?!! All I remember was a BLECH..very thin, ugh flavour from the little sample that TCP had sent me. I've smoked my share of beedis hanging out with the locals in rural India and I'd like to think that I can pick out that note if it's in there.

Dammit, I'm going to have to try it again when I get back to Toronto.

I never had a beedi. All I know is, I was on the floor laughing at the line "then I got home and it compromised my Chinese food". I giggle like a school girl reading some reactions to the Ravyn samples I've sent out.

Heading out for a bit.. more later.

McClelland is about the best brand you can get. I use the Blending Perique from P&C. I use a lot of different blending tobacco's in tests of different blends. Mostly I just get 2-3 ounces a month of the varietals I use most. There are a lot of different Burley's and Virginia's. Not many Latakia's and Perique's. Once a blend works for me I use the good stuff.

Johni, Boomer, what brand if blending Perique did you use? I ordered a tin on McClelland Blending Perique (and Oriental and others) this weekend that I'm hoping is a pure, unadulterated Perique. McClelland seems to have a respectable lineup of Perique blends, so I figured I'd give them a shot.

I just got an Aeropress. Haven't used it yet as all 8 extracts I have going still have awhile to go. It came with 700 filters which are supposedly re-usable. I think with 700 of them I can use a new one each time. I might even do some coffee.

D'oh!! I just picked up a Bodum today for over twice the price. This one looks exactly the same, and I'm sure gets the job done. One question: Does the space between the plunger and the bottom of the beaker present any problems on the final press? I'm assuming with at least an ounce of tobacco in there, it should still be a struggle to get the plunger all the way down.

All the Perique tobacco's are INO. The real Perique is a very small crop that is sold to big tobacco. The stuff we get is from crops grown in and around that plantation. Supposedly the soil is different. Since you can't buy the real stuff there's no way to compare.

For ~25% less than the McClelland, I should have gone with that one. I got scared off by the no-name, generic listing and decided to go with a trusted name. I was a little worried after some mentions of fake Perique or Perique in name only (PINO?) floating around. If they're all sourced from the same supplier though, there shouldn't be much difference.

Whatever get's you through the night. At the end of the day it's still a NET. :) :2c:

I kind of disagree with this. I think you want the plunger to push all the way down and press out "the good stuff", just intuition but I like using my big stainless steel turkey injector. And really unless you are supplying a small amish community you don't need something the size of a French press :)

A press definitely beats a swollen thumb from filtering with a syringe through cotton.

I was looking at a vacuum filtering set-up for $65. Then there was a distillation set-up for around $40. The Aeropress was $20. It all seemed like a lot of work and expense to get a clean extract that wouldn't gunk. Gunk doesn't bother me so I went with the Aeropress for now.

Well, Bill has been knocking out home runs longer than some of us have been on this thread (myself included). So, I take his word for it working well. Plus, even if you're only using 3-4 ounces of the capacity it is worth it for the convenient press, pour, and done nature. You can put a 5 micron filter on there and get a good filtration without waiting for gravity to take it's sweet time.

Also, if you use the cheaper press it allows you to get even closer to the bottom. It also allows you to pass the extract through again for a double filtration at 5 microns. I'm still wondering if a 1 micron felt filter would work. It seems a bit unlikely without creating pressure issues. Too bad we can't all afford vacuum assisted filtration systems. Sub-micron filtering for the masses!

Bill's Turkish extract is pretty good. Maybe if you ask politely he'll send you some.

I'd forgotten all about those. Maybe the $1 per ml price tag helped me forget quickly lol. Sounds like you got a good deal with the sale though, I would have bit too if I was buying at the time.

Thanks for trying them and reporting on them! If the Turkish stands out, I'm willing to spend a bit more for a really good Turkish.

Where do most set the wattage of their vaporizer when vaping nets? The reason I ask is I ordered a DNA30 Tube and just find out it has some limitation on the low end. I use a KFL at abot 1.4 ohms or an aerotank at 2 ohm. Both 9-10watts. I know a fresh battery can run 4.5 volts and the dna30 can handle anything below 7 watts, but I don't know if it has a low voltage limit. I should have looked into this further before I bought it but never hears of a limit on the low side.

I guess I am curious as to what wattage others smoke their nets at?

Hi regal,

I don't know if anyone has answered your question yet. I use 2 DNA30 devices with KFLs with 1.4-1.6ohm 28 awg Kanthal. The DNA30 can keep up with lower wattages at those resistances, it's only when you start sub-ohming that low wattages create issues. I usually vape my nets around 13-14 watts, that's my preference. I'd start with 9 and work your way up to where you get the best balance of warmth and flavor. Hope that helps.

Ugh, beedis. Had them a long time ago in India and almost gagged. Making them into a NET....that's just wrong.

I know right.. I remember another member recently asking what the tobaccos were that were used in beedis as well as the cheeroots (Gasp! cough cough GAG!) that are available in India because he was looking to extract them. I thought it best to just walk away from that question for fear of getting carried away.. :D

For filtering, I began using Melitta-type cones and paper coffee filters for my macerated extractions, but I've now developed a superior filtering method using French Press carafes fitted with polyester felt pad filters that have a 5-micron pore size. (Typical paper coffee filters have a 15-30 micron pore size). Some home extractors have turned to lab-quality vacuum-filtering down to 2 microns. I'm happy with 5 microns, though, and feel no need to invest more in sophisticated and expensive equipment.

Bill please remind me. Where do you get that polyester felt with the 5 micron pore size and do you have to cut/shape it to fit the French Press?

McMaster-Carr polyester felt filter fabric

Click on "Filtering Fabric." If you buy a roll of 5-micron pore size, the minimum order is a 3' x 6' sheet---about 12 bucks with $8 shipping. More than you'll ever need.

Yes, you have to cut out circles and punch a hole in the center to fit them around the plunger bolt. Make the circles 1/4" larger than the diameter of your carafe to snug up the plunger against the sides of the carafe. That prevents any liquid from seeping through unfiltered around the edges. It's simple. It works.

I cut out six circles that I'm still using after 15 macerations, since they clean up quickly and easily under a strong stream of hot water. The circles start out white, but after one use, they'll turn a light tan color. After each filtering, you'll literally see the trapped solids/gunk as darker-colored areas on the pad.

Funny you should mention that.

Last year, I sent a 10ml bottle of mixed juice to Jerms made from my Peter Stokkebye Turkish extract. About a week after getting it hee emailed me that the juice was going wonky---I forget exactly how---it began precipitating white goo or something bizarre like that. I told Jerms to throw it out immediately, which he did (I think). That was the one and only time one of my extracts did something weird. All the other bottles of juice I've mixed from that batch of extract have been fine. I've still got about 60ml left.

I'd happily mix a fresh bottle for Jerms, but I'm not sure he'd want to chance another demonic possession. LOL. (Every other NET juice I've made for Jerms as a beta tester has been fine---I doubt that he would have been so kind to me in his posted reviews were that not the case...)

so my 150mls of NET juices from HHV arrived yesterday!
i instantly took the caps off, breathed them out, and started to steep them =)
i couldnt resist so i tried the huntsman.
I WAS AMAZED! Its a very woody type flavor, and the tobacco flavor is prominent!
Im getting a very strong maple flavor, but im sure that will diminsh/change into somthing better!

I also picked up 2x60ml of BluemontVapes Strawberry Clouds! Its supposed to be a "better"
Mothers Milk! I love that custard flavor!

Lol, yeah that was weird.

I went to drip Bill's PS Turkish, and noticed that something was different. The consistency was.. well.. snotty. So of course, I started vaping it lol. Flavor was fine, a little light but not weird tasting. I thought, maybe I should message Bill to ask why this juice is like this so I did. Then I went to redrip and as I watched the drop travel several inches before breaking off it hit me.... wait, this isn't right, I probably should stop vaping this until I hear back from Bill. I got a message from Bill along the lines of; I don't know what happened but don't vape it!

Neither of us has a clue what could possibly have happened, but that juice got thrown out. It's a mystery. I've recieved several bottles of Bill's home-brews that he's mixed up for me and everything else has been fine.
